#1 was plain jane type Bud gold decals
#2 was Pringles with piglets(those funny bumps under the rear)
#3 was Bud double wing
#4 was Bud with tipplets and piglets gold decals with flex drive
#5 was Bud in "RED" same as above hull with new graphics
now my question-what was the purpose of the piglets and why did they add the tipplets later. Was it just for looks or was there a design reason. In theroy which hull should be the fastest if all else is set the same

Those funny bumps under the rear are called hydroshoes, They are supposed to help the prop lift the back of the boat out of the water. They were introduced when the Turbine engines started to appear due to the way the turbines had to be mounted. The engine was mounted way back in the hull, making it harder for the prop to lift the rear by itself, so the shoes are there to give the prop a hand.
The tiplets were added as an anti-blowover device. In theory, when the bow got too high, the rear wing was masked from airflow, making it and the vertical tails useless weight. The plan was to add the tiplets to the boat so the added drag when the boat started to blow over would push the back of the boat up and not let the boat flip. It was a good theory, but like so many things, didn't work in the real world.
As for which would be the fastest, either the Pringles or the Bud two wing, IMHO

No way!! I would take the flex ones any day! More efficient and adjustable. Why you think they were the last ones everyone was winning with?

See that's my problem. I keep hearing about them but have NEVER seen one except for pictures. Been trying to buy one since 1997 when they came out but were so limited all the califorinians(sp?) got them and us in the midwest got crap. I see 2 hulls(1 mod) on E sale but will probably get outbid like I did on the MRP Cracker Box the other day. I want one to test this fall to get ready for next year and to complete my set of hydros. Have to hurry as I have the new Llumar coming soon and have all my play money tied up.
BTW Adam thanks for the pics of San Diego you made my weekend. I especially liked the Llumar sinking shots. Did they drag it to shore to save it?
Hydrojunkie-I am starting on the U3 Vacationville/ex Miss Bud Slow Boat but need the Allison motor as I'm going ELECTRIC in it and want to hid the motor under it. Will put up pics soon

WC, the question was "Which hull would be the fastest if all else is set the same?" The reason I picked those two is simple, the shoes and lack of tiplets on the Pringles will get the hull out of the water better and have less drag, while the two wing hull is actually more aerodinamically efficient and less prone to blowovers.
Decoy, for the Allison, you will need to order plans from Newton Marine, as he is the only one I know that has them. Also, plan on making a mount that covers the entire openning so the boat won't flood as easily. Any luck with decals?

The Llumar actually blew to shore. Lane 4 that he was in is only a few yards from shore and the wind was fierce. The proximity to the beach was a problem as the divers had a hard time getting the recovery baloons under the transom. The tow boats also had a hard time getting close because the shore has a very gradule slope.

Haven't heard back on the decals but worse case I'll get them made locally off the computer pics
Plans will get ordered first of the monthT5/T6/T3/maybe T4 and the motor besides I need new wallpaper
Saw the new 2005 race list looks like a full race party run by the "good DR" and with the blessing of the owners/race site operators
