I need a pistol style radio to race my thunder tiger EB4 limited. What are the important things to look for in a radio for 1/8 use? What about servos and in car battery requirements?

Most 8th scale guys use high end FM radios from Airtronics-Futaba-JR-KO; and 100-200+ oz-in of torque and less than .12 transit time servos with metal gears and ball bearings. Get nimh batteries that fit where the kit says to, usually 5-6 cell packs are available premade.

Another feature that is good is Multiple Model Memories. I run three different setups for my MP-7.5. One for regular use and another for break-in....it only gives you 1/2 throttle. My third program is for my 6-year-old nieghbor. I only let the throttle open 1/8 and the end-point for the steering is set 100%. She's getting pretty good at running it :)

That's a great idea Tiggs. I should have a secret setting like that for when I let my friends drive. They like to hit things with my Monster Pirate. ;)

Thanks GMP! It took me about a year of replacing broken parts before I thought of the idea! I can't imagine not having multiple model memories now. It has saved me tons of cash AND in a couple years, I will hopefully have a great racer to race against!! :p
I never thought of that!!! Hehe... Thats a great idea tiggs. Well, getting back on topic...You should consider buying the Hitec Lynx 3D FM it has 10model memory(or was it 8) and has great feal. it has many features other radios dont. one of them is DSC(direct servo control). You know how when you are at a race and you can't turn your radio on because it could interfere with someones car? Well, thats not a problem...just plug in a chord to the radio, and another to the reciever and you have full control of the car, and it doesnt put out a signal. EX. You had to replace your throttle linkage and some parts in the front end. Instead of having to wait until you are up to race to set everything up(very hard to do), you just plug in the chord to your radio, and receiver. Now you can set EXPO, EPA, IDLE-UP, etc. without putting out a signal. This means you have an advantage over anyone who doesn't run a Hitec/RCD Lynx 3D FM radio...yup, even Yuichi Kanai. You can also just keep the Display on without putting out a signal. Another great feature is the DCX receiver. DCX refers to it being a dual conversion receiver, which filters the radio signal TWICE. I have found it has reception as good(often better) than PCM radios-and it is still low priced! Email me and I'll tell you about some other features this radio has...there are lots of them...but my fingers are getting tired!

I agree with Isky, the Lynx 3d is an awesome radio. If you want ALL the info on what this radio can do email Mike at mayberry@hitecrcd.com . He's one of the guys that designed it (I think) and is always happy to answer any questions. This radio can't be beat for the price and Isky's right about the DCX rx, it filters the signal twice and gives you excellent reception at a greater distance.

That is a great idea tiggs! Now I can let my 3 yr old son drive my truck and not spend the whole time praying it's gonna got me $20 per drive!
