comm drops

hey everyone i have some questions bout comm drops do they work ive herd some peeps say they do and some say all they do is collect more dirt to your motor lets here some answers.

Well, I use them but the hard truth is the fluid burns off the comm in the first ten seconds or so of your run, so it's not much good really. Kind of like one more thing you do that may or may not help to gain 1/10 second.

I use Tribo and it's not like other comm drops. Bill is right, most comm drops burn off. Tribo like Proline for your car in that it bonds to the comm and the brushes. Does it work? Yeah, my car feels a little faster but I have no quantitative data to prove it.

i only use mine when iam breaking in new brush's it speeds it up some.

The tribo drops do work, but they also increase the wear on the comm and brushes.

I don't know if Tribo increases power but for me it definitly decreases wear of the comm and brushes. I can run my motors harder and even when they get really hot the brushes and comm are fine.

So, if i cant get hold of the Tribo stuff, its not worth bothering to use anythink else?

At most racer's levels, comm drops that claim power increases are unnecessary. The power gains given by most comm drops are insignificant to all except maybe the top 1% of racers.

Tribo is the only "comm drop" I know of that is supposed to reduce wear, instead of increase it. I would run Tribo, or just run nothing at all. Concentrate on matched batteries, good chargers, and good equipment before thinking about comm drops.

Make sure you don't go hog wild putting the tribo on for stock motors. I usually either put 1 tiny drop on the comm or even just add it to the brushes and work it in a bit.

The tribo seems to let the motor rev more but keeps the torque the same, other drops seem to takeaway torque.

Make sure you do NOT use tribo during the breakin process. You want your brushes to seat properly. Also, don't put tribo on brushes that already have other comm drops on them. Either reserrate the brushes are put in new ones.

I think that this is the same stuff I've been using for years. Is it red? It's just TriboTech repackaging their stuff in a smaller applicator bottle. Good stuff though.

The comm dropes work for the 1st 30sec you drive the car ,then they wear out.They also put more wear on the motor.There is a pro and a con for comm drops

Comm drops do wear off quickly, you can even hear that if you do a test by running the motor,dropping them in, you will hear an improvement(smoothness) for a few seconds, then its back to normal. The best thing you can do for a stock motor( I assume you would be using these for a stock motor) is to regularly replace the brushes and lube the bushings. And if you have the means and a rebuildable motor, true the commutator. If you do that, you will never need comm drops.
