Hey just starting my first boat. I bought from some guy who came to my work. Its a 40" deep Vee. Thats all i know so far, when i get the pics developed ill post em maybe someone can tell me what modle i have. I have an octura motor mount, it looks sturdy enough. I bought a brand new .81 os max marine nitro engine. the running hard ware i have is a prather #1020 for a deep vee. Is this strong enough for what i have? It looks a little flimsy. This is what i am thinking of buying, futaba s3305 high torque servo with metal gears for the rudder, and just the standard servo for the carb. Macs muffled tuned pipe for a 13 cc engine. And 3 prather props 2.5*3.9, 2.4*3.8, 2.3*3.6 so far thats what i need to finish my boat. Also there is a book on rc nitro engines. Have any of you read it? Is this book worth reading or is there other ones out there that are better, i dont know the publisher but its a black cover with a nitro engine on it. also i have some set up and engine questions. First i was going to run my prop 90 degrees to the trandsom to start and i figured id lower the trim tabs so i dont blow over i have the dumas adjustable trim tabs.
Seccond, head shims anyone have this particular engine and how what is your piston to head clearence, and how close are you running your glow plug to the piston. and can i buy diff think plug washers or do i need to just sand mine down.
Last i live in belleville michigan. anyone in or around this area?

Thank you for your help
Adam

40" is a little small for an O.S. .81 so it will be a handfull to drive.
You'll need a 1/4" drive to handle the power, I didn't look up what you're looking at.
The Prather props use a 3-digit number that's on the hub. From my prop chart, all of those are too small except maybe the 250.
Start with everything on the transom at level to the bottom of the hull and mount the trim tabs 1/16" up from the bottom for less drag.
The book that you are looking for can be gotten at a Hobby Shop or order it directly from www.rcstore.com .
Head clearance should be around 12 thousandths. Don't worry about the glow plug gaskets. Belleville is over in the Detroit area, right? I do know of a few clubs in that part of the State. I'm over on the other side in Kalamazoo so I have to head over there to do most of my racing. E-mail or PM me if you need more help.

I can comment on the book. If this is your FIRST NITRO ENGINE, get the book. It tells how they work, what they need and how to take care of them. Another good book to get is through the R/C store as well. It's for the beginning boater, though I can't give you the exact name. It tells the basics on hull types, set ups, required pit gear and everything else you will need to know as a beginner. I will guarrentee it will also bring a lot of questions to mind as well. Good Luck and have fun with your new boat :)

The first book by John Finch is good but I love his 2nd one, the Advanced boating. I've read that one a lot!

I didn't mention that one for concern of information overload :)
