In the new January 2001 mag which I just got for some reason. I saw team orion is coming out with these speed series motors. Like if u want to go 30 MPH u by the 30 MPH motor. Same with the 40 and 50 MPH. What do you guys think of those. What are your opinions. Are they going to be a new revolution in R/C? http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/confused.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

i don't think so. My off-road cars (xxx, xxxt) can go about 50-55 mph with a trinity mod. They don't look like there going to be popular for racing.

I want the 50 m.p.h. one. They seem like a good idea to me.

I'd love to see a Losi electric bugggy go 50mph!! lol
The gimmick behind these motors is that they come with instructions on how to gear specific r/c cars when using the motor to go the specific MPH. You can't just stick the "50mph" model in ANY electric r/c car or truck and automatically go 50mph. You'll have to gear it as they suggest first.

Yes, i would liket to see a pic of these motors, even though the next motor(mod) tjat i will be getting is a Peak Aurora 12x2 for my XXX, that boy is gonna flyyyyyy.
Also, will Peak have a version of these motors? meaning, is it a TOP motor?

StephenB is correct, you can't install one of these motors and automatically go 50. You have to follow the gearing recomendations and be sure your electrics are able to handle the extra current demands of such a motor.

ya, i am sure it is 50mph with a pan car, if that.
and there is NO way your losi xxx or xxxt goes 50mph, A)the drivetrain cant handle it
and B)or did you stick some 6t drag motor in their or something?
i just find that VERY hard to belive. nitro staduims barely go 50 (right?)

The fastest i have got my Losi XXXT to go is anywhere from 28-35 M.P.H. (not to sure on that but it seems like it). I spent forever to get it geared right for on-road uses, then i had to take everything off cuz i knew it would be no go to me at the track. But i think 50 M.P.H. is posable but very unlikely when it comes to ST's and buggies. I mean the HPI Nitro that went 101.7 M.P.H. cost 4,500$$+ (i have the Nitro issue with it in there..March 2001). Let me think..when my wallet gets a little bit fater http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ill try and make my XXX go 60 so if anything happends i won't hurt my baby XXXT LOL

The motors might not be sold here, and I don't believe there are any production models as of yet. When Orion USA's Rick Howart (yes, the Peak guy) returns from the Nuremburg show this week, I'll get a more definitive answer.
I believe the Speed Series motors were developed with an HPI RS4 Pro 2 as the test vehicle. I'm sure some vehicles (monster trucks come to mind)simply will not do 50 with the "50mph" motor, but they will still be fast!
If and when the motors become available, We'll bolt them up as Orion suggests and radar test them. Stay tuned...
