Replacing engine of cheap RC

has anyone ever replaced the motor of a say a cheap *** radio shack/toys-r-us RC with a good one? is this even possible? I'm guessing not but if anyone has any input i'd be interested in hearing.

im sure you could but i think most of their motors are custom made...
