What batteries to use for radio?

I just got my radio today. Futaba 2PEKA FM. Ordered from Ehobbies, very prompt delivery and great packaging I must say.
Anyways, I was gonna get some rechargeable batteries for the transmitter & receiver. What kind of no nonsense batteries should I get? I don't want to blow my budget on awesome batteries. And what kind of charger should I get? Should I get NiCd or NiMh batteries? Remember I want to keep the cost down.

I use PureEnergy rechargable alkalines they have the voltage of alkaline with the convenience of nickle metals. Since your Canadian you should be able to find them at Wallmart.
