I read in other post's that you can use the Miss Bud pipe in the nitro hammer for increased performance in speed. How much speed would be gained by replacing the pipe? :) Are there any other mods for the hammer. I need like 5-10 more mph to beat my friends in a race. ONE HAS A SHOCKWAVE36 AND THE OTHER HAS A ELECTRIC TITAN 21.

My LHS said the Miss Bud pipe was a little big for the boat...does it need modifications to fit?

Im not sure if it fit's.

Try Loose Hammer Weight.

i use a miss bud pipe on my hammer, and it's a HUGE improvement over stock. if you decide to use one, you'll have to put a fitting on it for fuel pressure.

what fittings?

if you look at the pipe for a hammer, you'll see there is a pressure fitting on it that sends pressure to the fuel tank. a bud pipe doesn't have that fitting so you'll have to add it on.

I ordered the Macs tuned pipe a little while ago, should get it about friday. I'll post the results as soon as I get a chance to run it. I am hoping that the new pipe when tuned in will give the engine enough power to turn the 31mm prop. If not, I will move on to the 27mm props with the 1.6x pitch.

Oh yeah, that is if hurricane Francis doesn't blow me away.

I use the Mac pipe myself. Some guy over on another forum said that he tested every tuned pipe ever made on his boat and the Mac performed the best also. Every pipe ever made sounded like a crock to me, I've got one really rare one that I'll bet that he didn't try!
I don't think that the Miss Bud pipe is too big. The problem with any tuned pipe especially for these boats is that most of them are too long, including the header, to really do what they're supposed to do. Most have to fit around a radio box so they are made long.

WELL THIS ONE IS FRANCIS- A-F THATS MAKE THIS ONE THE SIXTH NAMED STORM. BUT CHARLEY HIT JUST THREE WEEKS AGO! BOARDED UP AND WAS CROSSING MY FINGERS. GOING TO DO THE SAME FOR THIS ONE. THIS ONE IS SO BIG THAT NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN FLORIDA YOUR GOING TO GET SOMETHING. I AM EXPECTING TROPICAL FORCE WINDS TO POSSIBLY LOWER HURRICANE STRENTH. THERE WILL FOR SURE BE GUSTS IN THOSE RANGES.

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND ITS GOING TO DROP AN LOAD OF RAIN, THERE SAYING ON THE NEWS POSSIBLY 13-IN. MAYBE THERE WILL BE SOME NEW LAKES FOR ME TO RUN IN. :D

ALL IN ALL FLORIDA IS A GREAT STATE TO LIVE IN. (THATS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE MOVE HERE DAILY) HURRICANE SEASON IS THE ONLY DOWNSIDE. ON THE GOOD SIDE, TWO HURRICANES BACK TO BACK OF THESE STRENTHS WE FOR SURE SEND SOME YANKEE'S PACKIN! :D GOTTA LOVE THE TOURIST GREENHORNS. :)

PEACE AND HOPE EVERYONE STAYS SAFE IN FLORIDA. ITS REALLY HARD TO THINK THAT IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS THAT PEOPLE WILL DIE, & LOSE EVERYTHING THEY OWN. GOOD TIME FOR FRIENDS :)

Have they always went in ABC order? I've never realized that. What about the year Hugo hit? 8?

The names are picked every year in alphabetical order with a different name every year. They also alternate between mens and womens names. BTW, they've never made it through the whole alphabet. They get the names once they're a tropical storm.
No hurricanes up here in the Great White North, just tornadoes (seen only one, that was enough) and nasty snowstorms.

Same for me up in the land of rain and Space Needles. I've seen one tornado and that was 33 years ago. Besides, us West Coasters don't get Hurricanes(unless you're talking the drink, and those are hard to find), we get Typhoons. Don't know what the difference is, besides which ocean it's on. I'm just fortunate the weather in the Northwest isn't Typhoon productive.

Typhoons are Hurricanes. Same Thing Just Different Name Because Of From Where They Come. I Think Some Places Also Call Them Cyclones. Same Also.

Well Whatever Your Wanting To Call Them I'm Ready For This One. Finished Boarding Up The House At 10:00pm. Now In Wait And See Mode. The News Is Reporting That As Of Now Not Much Changed And I Am Expecting 40-65mph Winds. With Gust Even Higher.
Lots Of Rain Tooooooo, They Are Saying That Some Places May See Up To 20in In 24hrs. Thats The Scoop For Now. :)

I know a Typhoon, Cyclone and Hurricane are the same thing. I was through the edge of a Typhoon back in 1984. I sure felt sorry for the guys on the "Tin Can" along side. Heard later they were tied to their beds if not on duty. Thank heavens I was on a Flat Top instead :)

We get several tornadoes a year here in the Tenn. Valley. If any of you know where Tellico is and all of the camping areas and off-road areas. There was a nasty one ripped through there several years ago. Thankfully I've never actually seen one though.

Well had to make a quick trip home!
Playin' with the hammer and ran over an unseen "twig". Broke the rudder. Don't have a replacement rudder, but I'm going to try one of the spare rudders from my stinger. It looks to be the same a an electric hammer. Not near as long, I may just end up putting around in it. :o

Once I get to order the correct one, what are some others I can use? I know you can a miss B., any others?

well better head back.

Who knows, using an electric hammer's rudder may be a new sport! I bet only a 1/2 inch or so will be in the water. May end up being very hair raising. :D

OK, now I'm gone.

The rudder on the NH is too long anyway so a shorter one might help you pick up a little more speed. Yes, there are alternatives. Octura make 2 of that that would work well, one longer than the other. the longer one has a part # of OC4WRMC, the shorter one is #OC4WR.

I guess it wasn't meant to be today! About as soon as I put it in the water, after putting the shorter rudder on it, I gave it some gas and it took off and then slowed down to a crawl. The floating debris that took out my rudder must have weakened my prop. It flew apart.

If I buy the 4mm drive shaft conversion from OffshoreElectrics.com what is an equivalent to the stock prop from the different manufacturers? I may get some others to play around with.

Hey Ron,

If I were to shorten the stock NH pipe at the header end, the pipe would then not be long enough to reach the hole in the transom. For the question....Could I attach an extension (section of pipe) to the end of the pipe so it will reach? Or, would that compensate for the length I took off and defeat the purpose? I thought about taking a couple of quarter inch sections off. What do you think?

Hydro Junkie
09-05-2004, 04:14 PM
I've seen people put a LARGER tube through the transom and put the exit end of the tuned pipe into it. This was sealed with a piece of rubber hose(or something similar) to keep water from running into the boat. The reason for using a larger tube is it lets the exhaust expand somewhat so the engine doesn't feel an increase in the backpressure like it would using the same size tubing at the end of the exhaust. Hope this makes sense :)

Yes it does, Do you think I would get an increase in performance if I go that route?

Ok got the Macs pipe in, shortened it a bit, and installed it. What is the "ideal" length of the pipe from the center of the cylinder(sp) to the center of the weld? Also would it be OK to install the pressure line nipple in the header? I want to have plenty of room on the pipe so I can install water cooling to it later on.

I've run mine on my 'rigger as short as 6-3/4" but for a mono I'd start off at 8" then shorten it from there. You might find that 7-1/2 to 7-3/4" may be better for you.
I'd put the pressure fitting where it was intended to go. Water cooling the pipe isn't a great idea. Water cooling the pipe does have one advantage, it makes the pipe act shorter than what it is and helps to quiet the noise. Kenetic energy is lost in the process whenever your cool a pipe though. The other worry of any water left in the pipe will come back down into the engine is another problem.
