I found out I work with a guy who has an off shore deep V with a weedeater motor in it. He used to live on the water but no longer does and has not touched it in a couple of years. He is not sure of the make of the motor and says int is a fiberglass hull about 4 to 5 feet long. Thinks it is made by dumas. Looks like a Scarab. It is about 10 yuears old. Does this ring any bells with anyone??? I have a Miss Bud. This is the only boat I have ever owned. What should I look for on a larger boat. We have not set a price but he said a couple hundred or so!!?? This includes the radio and parts. Needs a new prop.

If it's allright with the present owner try to get and post a pic of the hull and drive train so we can help you out some more.

I say as long as the hull, gear and motor are in decent shape it will be worth the 200 just for the fun. Definately as said tho, pics would help. If any pics can't be posted look for any stress cracks in the hull. (at that age it will prolly have at least a little but as long as they don't run everywhere I would think you would be ok. Make sure you test the radio. (since you've got a bud you'll be solid there. Make sure the motor fires and has good compression.
I,ve got a feeling you already know this tho since you have a boat.
Idea here. since you work with the guy ask him if you can take it out and run it for a day. Then you'll know if you want to spend a couple of hundred on it.

It could be a Dumas Scarab. Dumas didn't produce this boat as a RTR or RTF boat until recent years. At around 10 years old, it probably has a 25 or 30cc Homelite in it at best. Back then, a lot of people put just about any weedwhacker motor in their boats. Easy to recognize if it's a Homie by the red recoil cover.

Ok, here is the info. Its a Dumas kit #1435 scarab 53" fiberglass kit that he built in 1995-6. I has a 22cc McCullough weed eater motor. Is in great shap, has not been run in a couple of years due to the fact he moved off the lake and has not gone back to use it. IT does run and is missing the prop? What prop would you recommend by the way???No pictures, My camera is missing the computer cord.

The Mac motor is not one of the strongest ones ever made and the ones that I've had on my weedeater and leafblower, both have starting problems. Don't expect a lot of speed out of it, maybe 17-25 MPH tops. Marine Specialties has some parts for these motors but not much.
