After I run my rs4 rally the motor is extremly hot, hot enough to burn your finger if u left it on for like 5 sec. When I open the inner body shell i can feel the heat comin out. fully enclosed with the battery motor and esc, with no airflow because of the inner body, you can imagine how hot it gets. Should I just not use the inner body or what?? If I cut holes in the inner body that would defeat the whole purpose of havin the inner body. And I notice after I use it awhile and the battery gets low the car will actually start moving by itself. Is that just because the battery is low or could it be caused by the heat?
By the way it's a tekin rebel reverse esc, And a traxxas 20T stock motor from my stampede.

We noticed the same condition when we tested the rally cars. It's not limited to HPI cars - any car we ran with the inner shell tended to get the motor real hot. It's best to use the inner shell for display and remove it when running the car. Sure the chassis gets a little dirty, but I'd rather do some free cleaning than spend up to 60 bucks for a new motor.

but if you run the car on gravel, wouldn't the belts be fouled easily without the inner shell? thats why i thought it has it so the won't foul up.

I also have a rally and actually melted the motor leads and everything. What i usually do is only run it with the bottom on and leave the top off. And as for belt fouling, dont worry about it, mine hasnt done it yet and i have run the thing in gravel and coal chips all the time, nothing has happened yet. If you are on HPI's web forum, i think either RallySteve or RobstoysRacing custom forms a special innerbody just for the cooling purpose. Check it out. He also makes light pods like on the real rally cars, u have to see to believe.

I also have a HPI rally. To reduce the heat build up I cut soem holes in the top part of the inner body. Here is what I did.

-Cut out a 1" square in the front of the body between the driver(in the lowered area)
-Cut out the small intake on the left side by the driver
-Remove the area behind the driver which sits above the motor leave area for rollbar
-In the back, cut out the area in the middle next to the spur gear leaving some lexan at the very end of teh body to keep rigidity
-Use shoe-glue or something similar to glue some screen door screen in place. This keeps the dirt out.
