Hi
I'm looking to get into 1/10th racing, and my local store has an indoor carpet track. The guy at the store gave some great advice and between us we managed to narrow the choice down to the 3 cars mentioned.
I'm sure there are loads of opinions out there, so I'd be grateful for any advice. The guy at the store told me that most people at the track are starting to buy the X-Ray, but hey why go with the crowd !!
Thanks in advance
Mike

You should really look into the TRF415 by tamiya. It is a an awsome car. Lots of poeople at my local track have it and it also looks real sweet. It also has good durabiltiy to compliment its great handling.

^^^Agreed, 415... but the RDX is a similiar design... i like the profile... might consider getting one... but like everyone says most of the time... "get a car that your lhs supports most in parts"

Must admit Tamiya didn;t even enter my head. I know the store does Tamiya has they had loads of the XB range. I'll have to check if they have one in store to look at.

I can vouce for that. When TRF's 415 runs into my car, it usually drives away after busting my car. It usually takes him running it into the boards another few times to break his 415. :D

How about the Losi XXX-SG+? It's a heck of a lot cheaper than those 3 cars. Comes with an awesome handling body, practice tires/inserts/wheels. lol. It also has taken 1st, 2nd in mod. at the Reedy Race of Chamions, 1st. & T.Q. at the Speedworld Cup, and 1st. at the Euro. BRCA Touring Nationals. Considering the already high costs of these cars. You won't need to get updated suspension (Tamiya TRF-415), new chassis (X-ray T1).....who else knows what these companies will change every few months. No lhs is a real lhs without carrying Losi parts. They're all great cars. lol

dasupacat, have you ever owned another car? I never see you recommend another. My LHS is a real LHS and they don't carry Losi parts. The Losi has never been that big around here. Losi has followed the same pattern as everyone else. First there was the XXX-S, followed by the graphite version, followed by the Plus version and now XXX-S is about to be replaced. Most cars have a 12 to 18 month life cycle, unless you are the TC3, which has had a 5 to 6 year life cycle with minor upgrades.

Personally...there's just something about the 415 that does it for me. I don't have one, never even seen one...but it's freakin hot. Too bad on-road isn't all that big around here...I swear 2/3 of the r/c's I sell are monsters...and 90% of those are T-Maxxes and Savages. Out of the 3 you list, I'd go w/ the Pro 4, but I definately vote for the 415 above it.

I'VE BEEN RACING R/C CARS FOR 15 YEARS AND HAVE OWNED TAMIYA, YOKOMO, ASSOCIATED, AND LOSI CARS......I'VE BEEN TO A DOZEN HOBBY SHOPS IN THE EAST COAST AND HERE IN THE MIDWEST THAT ALL CARRIED LOSI PARTS....STARTED RACING TOURING CARS WITH A MR4-TC....SOLD, THEN A TC-3.....SOLD, AND HAVE SETTLED ON MY XXX-S FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS :D RIGHT MOST CARS DO HAVE A LONG SHELF LIFE (XXX-S, TC-3) BECAUSE THEY CONTINUE TO BE PROVENS DESIGNS! OH BY THE WAY ISN'T TAMIYA COMING OUT WITH A NEW SHFT CAR TO REPLACE THE TRF-415?

The TB Evo 4 isn't a replacement for the TRF 415...it's just an alternative. Tamiya usually has 2 chassis'...one shaft, and one belt. If I remember correctly, the Evo 4 is basically an Evo 3 drivetrain w/ a 415 suspension. I believe there are some other modifications, but I'm pretty sure that's the major change. Tamiya is even releasing a kit to convert Evo 3's to the 415 suspension I believe.
And one more thing...toss the all caps.

Guy's, lets not start a religious war, I knew there would be some strong opinions out there, so thanks for all the feed back so far.
My lhs lists the TRF415 as way more expensive than the others I mentioned. I'm in europe and the TRF415 is listed at 579 euro's, as opposed to 400-450 for the other cars. (1 euro = 1.20 usd) Is it worth the difference?
As for Lossi, they only list the off road stuff, so parts maybe difficult.
Thanks
Mike

Is it worth it? Only you can make that call. I've held TRF's 415 at the track and it's absolutely beautifully made. Every bit as nice as my Xray in terms of the aluminum and graphite if not even more so. If you value looks as much as performance, it's the best looking made car out there. They did cheap out on the battery mounts. You have to use tape, which for competition isn't bad but they really should have included Xray style mounts for the astronomical prices they charge. As for performance, it hangs in there with anything on the road. Personally, I'd buy one if I didn't have to mail order parts for it. If you value only performance, just buy any of the cars mentioned in this thread that you like the most. Any of them will get you going and be competitive.

I'd go with the xray. The pro4 handles ok, but the thing is a piece of glass it seems. The RDX looks awsome, but I would be afraid of the parts availability. Losi's xxxs will soon be outdated as they are comming out with a new car, same for the associated tc3. For the 415, it is very expensive, but it is also a good car. Another thing is tamiya releases a belt and a shaft car every year, so if you plan on keeping your car for a while, I wouldnt want to invest in a car that gets outdated in just a year. I have owned an xray for about 6 months now, and I love it. The craftsmanship is awsome, and they are one of the toughest cars out.
