King,
The Cat3000 is sweet. Unfortunately it is only available through Schumacher USA, fortunately they are super friendly. The drive train is super efficient and the car handles extremely well out of the box. I am currently putting some hop-ups on and doing a long term race review. Depending on your LHS they should be able to get one for you fairly easily. It definately is worth the money.
As for the batteries, I haven't tested the new Sanyo 3000's, but the Panasonics are pretty good, except you have to drop turns to get the same speed of 2000. 2400 are a good compromise between the two, I have been running them lately and can't complain about runtime or punch.

I am curious, what hop-ups are you putting on it? the factory options hop-ops? or something else. also does it have a gearbox cover or something so that dirt or sand dont get in?, because I was thinking of getting some sand tires running it around the sand dunes on cape cod
