I remember seeing a prototype of a HPI 4WD off-road buggy a few years ago in a RC mag, not sure if it was RCCA or not. But anyway does anyone know what happened to it?

Hmm, that sounds interesting... what scale was it? And was it electric or nitro?

I heard they gave up on it because the market wasn't very strong for a 4wd buggy. So they went with the much more popular 4wd nitro stadium truck, and are planning to enter the booming 1/18th scale racing scene soon!
HPI seems to be better at starting all new classes than building cars to compete in existing ones. The Pro 3 is a perfect example of this. Sure, it's a decent car, but it's just not of the same build quality as some of the more competition oriented kits on the market.
This is my opinion, based on my own experiences with the company and it's products.

It was probably based on this guy : http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXM636&P=7

Hmm, I bet it could fit some buggy front wheels, and you should be able to hack a Deja Vu body onto it. Sure it's not XX-4 or Cat-3000 but it'll cost you half as much as any of those for a 4wd.

They've posted on their forums that a 1/10 electric buggy and a 1/8 nitro buggy are not even being worked on right now. Could be a white lie to cover up things to come or they could be telling the truth (hey, what a concept!). Remains to be seen.

In the meantime, they sell a 1/10 scale buggy with an attitude problem (NMT).
