I'm new to this whole RC thing and I'm looking for LOTS of advice since I haven't started purchasing the equipment yet...

I'm pretty much decided that on-road is for me, that in mind I'm trying to figure out what is going to be a good setup for me... I've been considering the Associated TC3 Team and the HPI RS4 Pro... I think the extra 40 bucks is well worth it over the sport models, however, are there other cars I should be looking at???

I want to keep this on a somewhat moderate budget, I DEFINITELY DO NOT want the basic entry level stuff, at the same time I'm not looking to drop 1500 bucks for a setup either...

what about a good radio??? I know I can't afford a PCM radio but what about quality FM radios, are there any that stand out from the pack???

I plan on sticking to stock motors, which ones should I stick with, I've heard that trinity is really good, but I really only have one source to confirm this with, so I'd like some input on this also...

thanks for all the help...

Tony

Your up to a big task on this and you must be seriously into this but here goes. (some/most of this is what I got)
Associated RC10TC3 Team-est tourer out right now
Tekin G-10 Programmable Speed Control-everything in the package but you dont need software
Trinity P2K Copperhead Pro motor-best Stock motor out (for incresed performance use 4499 brushes from Trinity and Green Springs)
Get a Lynx 3D or JR XR3 radio
get a Hitec DCX receiver and Dual Conversion Crystals
Futaba S9101 steering servo-.11 seconds (fast)
Use deans silicone wiring and solder directly to everything-no connectors
Use Trinity 2400 batteries or my WC Zappers GC If I missed anything tell me And ill tell you the best

The TC3 and the RS4 Pros are at the top of the market now. Losi's Street Weapon is also with that group but don't know anything about it.

Anyway you swing it you are gonna spend about 1000 range.

Good radio, Airtronics M8, Hitec Lynx 3d, Futaba 3PDFS, Airtronics CLP3PS, these are the top ones minus a few out there. if you're look for a good FM also try Airtronics CX2P, Hitec Lynx 2 FM, Futaba 2PEKA. But if you want the best try the M8 you'll never go wrong with it and if you don't want it sell it on ebay http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif.

For stock motors there are 3 that stick out of the pack. One Trinity P2K, great all around and rebuildiable. Two Reedy Rage Type R Plus Stock, good mad eby reliable company. And my favorite Team Orion Chrome Stock, best one i use, and it looks great. All are rebuildiable which mean longer life.

gl (good luck) i would go mail order. Go through towerhobbies. They would have it to you in probably 2-4 days. They ship out of Champaign Il. east of Sprinfield. I live in Southern Illinois and it usually gets here about 2-3 days after i order it so have fun . By the way their ad is in RCCA and their website is http://www.towerhobbies.com/ http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/cool.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif enjoy rc!!! Whoa I see you wanna start out with the best. If you really are starting out have you checked out any Ready to Runs like the Traxxas 4-Tec???? No matter what people say you shouldnt always believe what they say when they say a car is the BEST. Why you ask? Because in this hobby you can adjust the car a lot to suit your needs. So if someone says a car is the best than it is the best for them and MAYBE not the best for you. How you have your car setup will determine what is best for you. Dont always go with a first opinion. With all this top of the line expensive stuff you wanna get I assume you want to race really competitive at the tracks if thats the case then maybe most of that stuff is for you. But if you wanna just race in your neighborhood for fun you are wasting a lot of money. If you wanna race for fun then and wanna use stick packs chech out the HPI RS4 Sport or Traxxas 4-Tec. Just make sure you ditch those standard white connectors that they come with and get some really efficient one like the ones by Acer (www.acerracing.com). But if you wanna win a ROAR or IRMAR championship then go with the other stuff. The decision and money is yours.

Oh yeah a lot this also depends on DRIVING SKILL. Just because you go out and buy the most expensive car that doesnt guarantee a win. And remember you can always start out with a sport and upgrade later. There is a lot you have to learn if you are really starting out that I could tell you about but that wouldd take forever for me to write. Experience is a great teacher though. And believe me you dont have to start out with the best of the best.

well, I came to the choice between the TC3 and the RS4 on my own, no advice from anyone, didn't talk to shops or racers or anything, they just seemed to be the nicer designs out there (that I could afford)... I realize that they are higher end products, but at the same time I really don't want to buy a car and accessories that I'm gonna have to ditch after a year so I can upgrade... in my experience, it is almost ALWAYS cheaper to get the good stuff up front, that way you are not buying stuff two and three times because it no longer is "good enough" or that it breaks so often you could buy a new car with the parts you've replaced on it... I do realize that driver skill is WAY more important than any car I could buy, when I used to road race motorcycles the pro racers on MUCH smaller bikes would just kill me and it was ALL rider... if you have time some day please email me anys bits of info you have, I'd greatly appreciate it... tbrown@mesirowfinancial.com

anyway, thanks for the advice
