hi i whated to paint a body for the past 5 months but never had any time but this week i was thinking about it and i wanted to paint a mini-t body and parma one its only 10 so if i mess up its not that much money. i wanted to make some kind of body that would looki nice and would be able to use a a bash or race body for the mini. my idea for the paint job was a black flake(if they make that color) with a dark grayish flake gosth(sp) flames on the hood and the roof and if possible the sides. what and some good part companys and masking companys have what i am wanting to do. i know i have to buy liquid window masking.
Thanks

Whether you use liquid mask or any other mask, it's up to you. An alternitive to masking take is shelf liner. It's a lot like the window masks you get with the bodies. I only use Createx and AutoAir paints. They have several flake colors to choose from and a whole bunch of colors.
If I were painting that body, I'd paint it with Bob Dively's Liquid mask an mark off my flames on the outside. Cut the mask and peal away the flame area. Load my larger gun with a mix of clear and pearl flake. Spray a few thin coats then a thicker one. If sprayed a little wet, the flake will look better. After the clear is dry and cured, mist on a coat or two of black. Peal off the remainder of the body to be painted and mist a very light coat of black. It must be very even and mostly translucent. Then spray with the clear / flake mix. You may choose a different color flake here too. After the clear is dry, go back over it with a more solid black.

Dave
edit: I buy all of my paint and supplies from www.bearair.com

I have now switched to using vinyl masking for my designs instead of doing free hand designs! I now generate my designs on the vinyl then apply them to the body and take them off with little difficulty! I also use bob liquid mask but I you do free hand stuff count on having a choppy paint job, it may look good but not as clean as the vinyl!

I like liquid mask more than vinyl. Its more forgiving in my opinion. If you take your time cutting, you can get very nice edges. Just my opinion though.

Try using liquid mask on a small Mini-t body and then try cutting out a design, it's nearly impossible

I've used LM on 1/18 and 1/24 scale bodies. The 1/24 scale was pushing it though.

Airboston are you from Boston? I live in Boston and work/live at one of the local major institutions. I just bought what I thought was vynil masking. I was on ebay, and the heading of the stufff I was buying was supposed to be vynil when I received it today it was 300 yrds of masking tape for professional car painting. I was somewhat surprised and pissed at the same time. I guess I will use this stuff while I'm painting walls or something.

I know that, what I ment is that it is very difficult. Such a small space. Thanks king for pointing this out.

Would you say that it is better than faskolor? Are their more colors than maskolor? Do you need a different airbrush for Auto air? How long does it take to cure? Do you need to use any kind of substrate? One last question, is it cheaper than Faskolor in the long run?
