Canadian Tower Hobbies customers callin ya out!

Anyways guys, just curious if any of you Canadians out there have ordered from Tower Hobbies before. The reason I ask is because I'm curious if you get charged duty when the stuff arrives because all the stuff I've purchased from people has been duty free but I've heard they ship via UPS to Canada and they charge broker and Duty fees. Let me know about your experiences thanks guys!

ya, i use tower exclusively.
it has everything i want and more.
just one problem; the exchange rate and duties and the taxes just kill me!
i use a co. called borderfree when i order anything from the states.
i still have to pay all the above but when i put in my order; borderfree calculates the total cost, there are no hidden charges when your order arives at your door.
the best part is that you're not charged until your order clears customs. :cool:

I ordered a few times. The shipping fee is $16.99 and I've always been stung for duty! I'm pretty sure I didn't get UPS, because they charge ASTRONOMICAL service fees, but I know I was charged a $5 fee for something and then taxes. In the end, it wasn't much cheaper than buying from the LHS, so I don't buy from Tower anymore.

Hey all... If its a small part, I'll try the LHS (usually doesn't have it)... Then I'll order from ECMC.COM... Its in PEI and has everything at GREAT prices... Just placed an order for $250 last week (all prices in CANADIAN)... You only pay GST, NO PST (unless you're in PEI).. and for about $8 shipping, its at your door the NEXT DAY!!!! If they dont have it and I cant seem to find it, I use Tower as a last resort and SPECIFY------ NO UPS ------ because you're get dinged about $35 for their handling... :eek: :eek:

On four different orders, $5 handling fee-Pst and Gst-no duty.
If you join their club, the shipping fee is only 6.99 (instead of 16.99)and at the time I joined, the fee was only $15 to join. You save $10 shipping fees on each order.

I ordered my N.Rustler from Tower cost me like 310 US but my dad had to pay like 70 bucks in taxes when he got it at his work lol he was pretty mad :D I'd try ecmc.com too they look like a good company and shipping must be way less then the 17 bucks at tower.

Hey thanks for the info guys. I know about that ecmc in PEI but they don't have all the things that I need. As for tower hobbies, well for those of you that did shop there, how long did it take for the item to arrive at your house from the date that you placed the order? There's both a ground option and an air mail option and the air mail one says 10 to 30 days when usually air mail takes no more than a week. I also had a free shipping coupon code but the RCCA moderators seem to have ditched that thread for some reason (didn't see why). That would make buying from Tower Hobbies pretty good considering the $16.99 shipping charge they have! I think I have the code on my laptop so I'll check it out. Let me know about the shipping guys and thanks for the help!

heh the operator told me any business address, i dont think it cost me more, but i did end up paying like 80 bucks in duty. :eek:

7-10 days max on three out of four of my orders-delivery time improved when I joined the Tower Club. Shipping costs $10 with club membership-and membership cost $15-

I think it took 5 working days for me, it was pretty quick, they say if u get it delivered to a business address it goes faster, so i had it sent to my dads work. :D
