View Full Version : ESC Ratings?

Today I was running my stadium truck around and the esc puked on me. So now I need to buy a new one, and I want one that will last since my money is precious to me and I don't have a lot of it :p (Hey, I'm only 15). I'm running a 12 turn Revolution in a T4, and my old ESC (duratrax streak) was supposedly rated for 12 Turns and 10 cells so I thought I was on the safe side with only 6 cells; turns out that it can't really do that. So now I'm paranoid of all the ESC's that are rated at 12 turns (a lot of them are) and afraid that they too will go up in smoke. I'm running really low gearing, and my drive train is super smooth so I know that nothing's wrong there before you all start asking questions about it. How is the Novak Fusion? It's only $60 and rated down to 12 turns, but is that too generous of a rating? Sorry if my post is a little scrambled, it's late here. Thanks a lot guys. :)

Its not always a good idea to go all the way down to the limit of an esc. For whatever reason, a lot of ppl fry them like this. Try getting something with a lower limit, like the Duratrax Ispeed 8 turn, especially if money is an issue.

See if you can get a novak Cyclone off somebody used for cheap. Those are great electronic speed controls and can handle just about any motor.

I run a handwound paradigm 11x2 D5 and Reedy Kr 11x2 in my Novak Fusion which is rated to 12 turns. Runs like a dream, I have the stock spur and a 17 tooth pinion.

Well I e-mailed Novak and they said that under racing conditions and using good stuff they'd recommend a dually over the fusion. So now it looks like I'll have to save up a little more and get one of those.

i'd go with the fusion if money is an issue,it has thermal protection so if it got too hot it would just shut down instead of puking like the cheap ones.i run an explorer 2 and it's rated at 15 turns and i run a 13x2 with 7 cells and it's fine.

I have a Super Rooster...its a little pricey but I haven't had a single problem with it yet, and it made my XXXT go a good amount faster.

Take tec_41's advice and check out the Duratrax Intellispeed 8T. It's a heck of a good deal and should be able to handle 12 turns no prob.
