I am looking into a 4wd touring car to run on a carpet road course. I already have a Losi buggy so I'm considering the XXX-s. However I notice a lot of people running the Associated TC3. Any advice on these cars? Are there any others I should consider?
Thanks,
Dennis

Well I just purchased a XXX-S and all I can say is that it is a breeze to assemble. I'll let you know how it drives in a few more days. From what I have been reading on the forums the XXX-S and TC3 can be tweaked to pretty much run identically on just about any surface. I guess you should go with whatever company your LHS supports more.

seems there are a ton more TC3's on eBay, which is where I would buy the roller. I was watching for them the last few weeks and you can get Team cars for as little as $75 and factory team for as little as $110. The XXX-S g+ are a bit more expensive and there are far fewer. There are some good deals out there you just have to be patient.

in my opionin, its probably easier to get tc3 parts
The TC3 is a good vehicle still, but if I decided to buy one at a minimum I would make sure that I got one that had the BMI chassis conversion on it. This really improves the handling characteristics of the vehicle.
for you since you already have losi stuff, maybe stick with the XXX-S. Just make sure you get the G+ edition. Also, check with losi and see if the kits come with the new black belt.
For durability though, the X-Ray is a tank and is probably the best quality vehicle I have seen in a while.
If you have no budget then why not get the best?
TRF415
Impeccable quality, perfect fit and finish of parts, highly tuneable, fully loaded with all the good stuff, awesome performance, smooth drivetrain, looks gorgeous (as if you didn't already know that) :p

I'd say if you're on a budget, go with which ever car your track supports the most, TC3 or XXXS. If not, go with an Xray or the 415, or possibly a Corally Assasin or their new touring car (expensive and impossible to get parts, but nice as hell).

Stay Losi. I Had A Tc3.....sold It. Lol. I Got An Xxx-s G+ And Am Soo Happy With It. Why Get A Tc3 And Get A Bmi Chassis...and Put Losi Parts (steering Knuckles) Etc. On If It's Soo Good? I Didn't Like The Torque Steer When I Had It. The Tamiya 415 Is Too Expensive...and Will Be Replaced By Their Other Shaft Car Coming Out Soon. Tamiya Also Just Released New Suspension For It. More Money To Waste. The Xray Is Too Pricey Too Considering All The New Parts They Keep Coming Out (chassis/upper Decks). While The Only Upgrade You'll Want For The Losi Is The Black Belt Conv. You Could Get A Stock Losi Sedan And Have More Money Left Over For Other Things. Plus It Comes With A Great Body!

I have both and both are great. Go to the local hobby shop and see for which car they carry more parts. Is there a local track? See what they are running, you can get the local drivers to help you with setup. Which ever you choose, get out and practice your drivering skill.

I would stay away from the 415 on carpet if you were to run with foams. I say this not only because I own a 415, but because Tamiya does not offer a front diff for the car. You have to build one from scratch. An excellent car for carpet is a TC3. Tons of parts support and setups already available to start from. If you want something more exotic and not worried about parts or money, the XRay Factory Team kit is a good choice.
Back to Tamiya, if you race on carpet with rubber tires, then yes.. a 415 may be good for you. The Evo IV is new and has been out in asia for quite some time now. Easily had on EBay, Honk Kong online stores, or Japanese online stores. They will arrive in a few days or weeks here in the states. I'm waiting for it to come stateside. I don't wanna pay out the yin yang like I did for the 415 coming from Japan.
Another good choice is the Yokomo CGM kit. I have one and it's very nice and easy to work on. Tons of hopups for that as well.

Since you already have the Losi Buggy, I'd probably get the XXX-s. They're all good cars. Do yourself a favor, though, and pick up that special edition Touring Car RCCA magazine. It does a great job comparing each kit side by side. I wish there was an electric shootout just like the nitro article, though!
I think the new Corally RDX looks really interesting. The XRay is wildly popular, of course, but pricey. You can't go wrong with the ever-popular TC3. If you're looking for a used kit, you'll have the easiest time finding a great deal on a TC3.

Get the TC3.I have the IRS carbon FIBER conversion chassis on it and this thing handles like a beauty! My uncle has a 415 and knows how to use it and my tc3 keeps up with it!NoOOOOoo need to buy some expensive car when you can buy a cheaper TC3 and be just as competitive as thoes ''high end cars''.The only car that is worth the money and the price isnt RIDICulas(SP) is the HPI PRO 4.tho my tc3 still keeps up with that too.I think if you know your way around the tc3 you could prolly tune the thing to victory.

WHY THE HECK WOULD SOMEONE GO BUY A TC3 .THEN SHELL OUT EVEN MORE MONEY FOR SOME KINDA CONVERSION KIT ...JUST SO IT CAN "HANDLE LIKE A BEAUTY" SOUNDS LIKE A WASTE OF MONEY TO ME. I'D HOPE SOMEONE WOULD SPEND MONEY WISELY LOL
I'D ADVISE THE GUY WHO STARTED THIS TO JUST GO WITH A XXX-S G+ ..YOU'LL SAVE$$$ OVER ALL THOSE OTHER CARS AND SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE A LOSI IN THE STABLE YOU CAN GET PARTS AT THE SAME PLACE.

I run an xray t1r on my carpet track with foams and it is easily as fast as the evo or factory. I highly recommend it and love putting the smak down then having people be extremely surprised to see that I am running a plastic chassis car.

All I have to say is, parts support! parts support! parts suppport! Any of these cars will be capable of winning. I use a ebay'ed TC3 -racer- edition, not a single drop of blue on the car (except for wheel nuts) and won A-main (though missed TQ by .7 seconds) on my club's asphalt track. Week before I TQ'ed but crapped the bed in the main. It's absolutely all about setup, driving, and motors/batteries/having a free drivetrain. So let me say it again, parts support! Unless you just really want a shiny aluminun and carbon fiber chassis, which isn't wrong, but not completely necessary in most instances.

Amen, brother! Amen.
These days, all reputable tourings are on par with each other. Look at big races' top 3 finishers around U.S. and world. No single car dominates the entire world. For hobbiests, what could be better than this? We have a handful of very capable touring cars.

:D I went for a shiny car...it's my dormant blonde gene. He's right though. There are some cars that make somethings easier, ie. the Pro4 has a pretty free drivetrain, the MR-4TC SD is easy to get into. But once you put them on the track it's just about what you can or can't do with the controller.

I personally like the xxx-s better. i looked and asked around before i bought a touring car and i liked the layout on the xxx-s better. Also if you get a new kit, the G+ version it is about 10 dollars cheaper than the high end tc3 kit and you get a body(a good one too) and some wheels and tires to get you started. There are many cheap tc3 rollers around and if you can get a good deal on one i'd go for it, but if you buy new i would recomend the losi.
The BMI Chassis conversion eliminates the torque steer ( ran it on carpet and asphalt, no problems ). I have seen used BMI Chassis kits go as low as $100 and that is with a few regular TC3 upgrades.
As for the losi, I have seen there parts break just as easily as TC3 ones especially indoors on carpet. The most durable vehicle is the X-Ray indoors that I have seen. It takes a beating and keeps coming back for more. The quality is also first rate.
