I have a Trinity Speed Gem 17T single and I have guys at the track telling me that this motor is too much for a tight indoor track. They all suggest that I go to a stock motor which they say I will run faster! Is it true that you can run quicker with a stock modified motor as compared to a modified high turn unit?

I well driven and correctly geared car will often finish well up with the leaders when using a stock motor. A 27turn motor produces
more torque than your 17, this can give it that little extra grunt out of tight corners. Your could try gearing down a little as this would save on the expence of a new motor for the time being.

A lot of it depends on just how tight your track is, but it's true that there are places that a stock motor is typically faster than most mods, because the mods don't have enough room to take advantage of their greater power. However, it is still possible to make a mod work, you just have to gear it very conservatively. The track I run on is also very tight, & I run both stock & mod(when possible), & I've noticed that I get lap times with my stock that are equal to the mod, but I still like bolting in lots of power & making it work. Plus, when it's geared right, the mod allows you to keep some power in reserve, when you need to overtake someone, that you can't really do with a stock...... http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif
