my dog likes to chase my r/c's around the yard. I really don't want him to be chasing around my new traxxas stampede so I figured I could maybe hop-up the Nikko some. it is a huge Hummer truck. 1/10 scale I think. it works pretty good in my backyard but it needs more power. it would be great if it was a bit faster too. is it possible to change the motors in these? I was thinking of picking up a few 9.6v 2000mAh battery packs especially for Nikko r/c's. that should be good enough to power a better motor.

Why not just let ur dog chase the pede? Unless he chews it up and stuff...It is possible to make mods to a nikko, but i wouldnt really waste my money on it if i were you. Its not as easy as popping a new motor in, but people have done it before, so hopefully they can help you out!

You can rip out the electic's and add in spares from other rc's.

Well I tried it and gave up. :D Nothing fits with any reliability, the axles/wheels are a bugger just to get off, everything's pressed and stapled and glued so you have to freakin' break things to do anything. I suppose with adequate patience and two 50 gallon drums of "time on your hands" someone could pull it off. :D

I put a Mabuchi 700 or something in a tyco. I had to use balsa wood to mount the motor. Turns out the motor was sucking soo much juice that there wasn't any left for steering. You'll just end up with headaches and broken parts.

I tried to hop up my friends Nikko. We were taking it apart and realized it wasn't going to work. So we fixed it with a hammer and rocks.

My friend and I used to run his Stampede around the yard while the dog chased it. The only thing that happened was the body looked like it came strait out of Jurassic Park with all the teeth marks in it. The Stampede is built to take abuse, and we had to drive it off a 3 story church to break it, and that was only the body mount. Just get a cheap body and have fun.

^^^that sounds reasonable. My bro has a bandit, and it hit my car at full speed and rolled like 15 times, end over end. not one broken part. traxxas makes some durable cars.

last time i tried to take a tyco apart, i snapped the body in two. and when i did get to the inside it looked like the inside of a computer. then i put it back together and it never worked again.=)

i have put two battery packs in a car but it may fry the electronics. it is defenitally possible but you need alot of time and be good at customizing and parts. my project now fix a car that my friend got ran over
