A long time ago when I was new to rc...like... toy new, I got a tyco car for Christmas. For many years (when I was a little kid) I had loved the tyco cars, because they ould break everytime your crashed. But one year I remember that Tyco released a car called the Turbo Scorcher, and it had 3 wheels on each side giving it a total of six wheels. I think it has two motors in it, but its not controlled by rotating front wheels, each set of 3 wheels on each side is controlled independantly so it can do those 360 spins. Well, the other day I was thinking about how cool that little r/c car went, and I called up Tyco R/C to ask if they still made it.
I called the "technical information" part of Tyco. And this is how the conversation went...

Me: "Hi, I was wondering, do you still make the Turbo Scorcher car?"

Woman Techrep: "No, that car is really old"

Me: "Why did you stop making it?"

Woman Techrep: "Because we started making better cars"

Me: "Making your cars slower doesnt make them better, the old cars you used to make went twice as fast..."

Woman Techrep: "uh..."

Me: "How many motors did it have in it?

Woman Techrep: " I don't know...you'll have to call our engineers."

Me: " This IS the engineer number..."

Woman Techrep: "Oh, yes, you're right, it is. You should try to call our repair business for the answer to that question"

Me: "Fantastic!(sarcasm) *she transfers me and I ask the business how many motors there are in the tyco turbo scorcher, they tell me they've never heard of it*" ((((click)))

Alright, so I'd failed to find a Turbo Scorcher to buy. So I was bummed out for a couple of days, then today i went to my friend's house, and I was going through his closet (just messing around). And there in the shadows, I saw a light, a bright light, a holy light, and choir music began to play, and I began to float (no not really), but I saw a Turbo Scorcher sitting in the back of his closet, in perfect condition. My friend David told me it haden't been used in about 3 years (which I believe is true) and i offered him 4 dollars for the Car, the 9.6v NiMH battery, and the little cheap radio it comes with. So tonight, I charged the battery to take this little cheap speed demon for a spin.

My Older cousin, Trevor, brought out my little brother's Traxxas Rustler. Me and my cousin put some on-road tires on the back of the rustler, and put a 20 turn motor in it, we also softened the suspension for better handeling, and then the race was on...

I busted out the little 4 dollar mint condition Turbo Scorcher, and we raced, this little Tyco car kept up with a modified ruslter, IT WAS SO COOL!, my cousin was sitting there with his mouth hung open so wide it wasn't funny. For those of you out there who've used it, you know how fast it is, and I'm surprised that tyco still doesn't make this car today. Almost all made cars by Tyco, Nikko.. or whatever etc... are pieces of poo compared to teh real r/c cars like traxxas, mugen, kyosho, hpi, etc... but I am just so surprised that this old Tyco model help up so well with its speed. It is truely a treasure I'll hang onto forever :-D

that's my little story ...

When i was in 4th grade (around 6 years ago), our principle staged an r/c drag race. I had a tyco car, i dont remember the name, but it had 6 cells in the bottom of the car with an additional 2 in a fake engine that you could remove/replace in the bed of the truck. ANYWAYS, guess what i lost to..a Turbo Scorcher. I remember that car, i dont know if it is still in working order or not, but i remember. I only wish i had my 1/8th back then...i woulda showed those idiots what a real car is! It was a great time though, i only wish i could go back. I did come in second! "winner of the losers" is what the principle said when he handed me 2$ cash. Haha..but i got 2 bucks!

Ahhh the good ole days when RC didn't cost an arm and a leg. I remember when I got this Radio Shack car. I think it was the Black Wolf. Anyways some little kid was bugging me to drive it. I told him we'd drag race (he'd be running) and he'd have to beat the car then I'd let him drive. I won.

Everyone thought that car was so awesome. Then I got a RC10NDS. That kid tried to run it over with his bike but I just floored it and left him behind.

I have a Turbo Scorcher and it is pretty cool. Come to find out, I had one of the smaller versions. My mom paid $80 for a mini version and it was only 2wd, the front two wheels where non-powered. I was bummed when I went two my friends house only two see a Scorcher twice its size. Mine has 2 motors and that car can take abuse, belive me I'v done some pretty stupid things with mine and it still survives.

Well, this doesn't have anything to do with a scorcher, but while you guys are on the topic of toy r/cs, I have a Radio Shack Porsche 911, but I want it FASTER, would it be possible to put a faster motor in it, perhaps one that's NOT made by Radio Shack?

Does the 911 have a 540 motor in it? If it does, you probly can.

oops. I just thought of something, the circuit board would probably get fried if you went with a faster motor.

Ahhhhhhh, TYCO cars, i can tell you about those, i have had so many of them, my year that i got into the REAL stuff, i was expecting a nikko for christmas, instead, i got a stampede, it was the best christmas ever, either way, i remember i had this cool car, it was by XRC, and it was that one with the real infaltable tires, and it could flip onto the other side. that thing was unstoppable, i also had one called a tirestorm, that bugger would smoke, any Tamyia(stock of course) or traxxas around, that thing flew, it had these tires that would get bigger when you hit the gas, this thing really flew.

I still have a very old Tyco Fast Traxx laying around here (more than 10 years old). It still works great, and it is very fast (not as fast as my Mugen MBX-4 though, hehe). It has two motors and drives on tracks, one of the rubber tracks however has become a bit sloppy, so it falls of the wheels sometimes http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, I have my fast trax somewhere. I remember the dumb little tracks used to rip and my bro would fix them with electrical tape. Also had a Typhoon II. Anyone remember the commercials for that? 9.6v TURBO POWER! Turbo? Umm, not quite.
