Hello folks,

I Havn't been active on this site recently, But I have been checking in on you all from time to time. I have been kicking around a question in my head for the last couple of days as I scheme about my next body, Maybe some one here can help.

How do you glue (or otherwise attach) lexan to lexan. now Im not talking a simple attachment. For example, lets take an HPI Maxx/savage, El-camino or hemi cuda and lets cut that immensely overstated (yet devilishly inspiring) blown hemi off the hood and attach the "mending plate" that HPI has so thoughtfully molded into the scrap lexan for aparently just that purpose.

How do you attach it so that you can paint the body in the traditional way (from the inside) without it looking like a hack job ?? Meaning I'm not looking for "paint it from the outside" responses!

What kind of glue or such would you use ??

Any other "bodywork" tips & tricks are also welcome

Thanks people, Phil

I use Shoe Goo to put lexan on lexan....have done this on the inside of a nitro top where the pipe will rub so it will not mess up my paint or just to reinforce a weak spot.

Assuming you wanted to attach the blower to another car, your best bet would be to cut it out of the hemi and leave some of the hood section attached. Paint up the blower and then paint the hood portion black. Then cut a hole out of the hood where you want the blower to be and scuff up the outside portion of the hood part of the blower and use Shoo Goo to attach it to the new body from the inside. That way the black portion just looks like the inside of the engine compartment.

Haunted;

Thanks for the input! I was however thinking of going the other way, that is mending the hole in an el-camino or such after cutting off the engine. I can see how your technique would work wonderfully for attaching the engine to another body as a matter of fact the ridge left by the hole cut in the body would look exactly like a real hood opening to allow the motor to protrude. however if I used the same technique to try and make the hood look "virgin" again it would be quite obvious its not with the panel now sunken below the plane of the hood and the ridge showing. I may be asking the imposible here. I was just trying to see if anyones attempted this and had good results?

In that case I have no clue! We need the lexan version of bondo!

Cut out a piece of lexan the size of the hole, glue that to a larger piece, then glue that to the hood from the inside.

This will raise the patch to the same level as the hood, only there is no way that I can think of to fill the seems left.

Edit: On second thought, you might be able to replace the entire hood and make the seems blend with the real seems.

Clear, sandable, buffable, lexan bondo. Now thats an Idea that could make someone some money! now we just need to atract the interest of a molecular chemist!

MaxxThrasher; Thats a great Idea It was so simple too. I Guess until someone comes up with the lexan bondo the seams will have to stay
