How often should you clean your transmission. All there any cleaners you can use that you would find at your local hardware store. Also what should I use to relube it?

What kind of car do you have? I have a T2 that I've put countless hours on since 1997. I have only pulled the tranny apart 1 time because I figured it would need to be cleaned. It didn't, there wasn't a grain of sand or a spec of dust inside it! Associated did a fantastic job designing the Stealth Transmission.

On the other hand, if you are talking about a belt driven touring car, then you will want to tear down and clean the diffs pretty often. I usually do it every couple weeks.

As for lube, I only use the Associated Stealth lube on the diffs.

dont put lube in it!!! thats a very bad idea. you want to clean out he bearings, and replace any bad ones. but besides that you should be fine! and remeber gas trucks put much more wear and tear on their trannies, so it mightnot be a bad idea to replace the idler, since it gets the most stress.

The only thing in the stealth tranny that needs to be lubed is the differential. Take apart the diff, clean off any old grime that may have gotten on it (you may have to replace the rings while you are at it), and put another coating of stealth diff lube from Associated on the rings. During reassemble make sure everything goes together and is adjusted properly and you'll be on your way.

but make sure you dont get any on the gear, or else it will mess up your diff.

and you might want to replace the diff balls and rings. they are under alot of stress.

Why can't you put grease on the diff gears? Is that only for AE or does that apply to all cars and trucks? I put grease on my diff gears and nothing has happend! So whats the deal i need to know?!?!

your diff will react differently with or with out grease

Putting grease on the gears will create drag that will slow the car and put undue strain on the motor.

I am taking out the bushings and putting in bearings in my stealth trans. From what I'm reading here if it is dirty clean it but don't lube it up afterwards. Is that right?

The only thing that needs to be lubed in an Associated Tranny is the diff balls and washers. Don't put any grease on any gear teeth, it is NOT neccessary or even helpful.

For Losi tranny's, they say to put a thin film of (white) grease on the joining edges of the transmission cases, right before putting them together. This helps to keep dirt out. It won't hurt the tranny to put a little white grease on the teeth of the gears. I've been doing it for a long time and my tranny is fine. Just don't over do it.

Putting grease on the gears themselves definitely wont hurt anything. All it can do is cushion the airgap between the gears and reduce wear (as long as no dirt gets inside the diff and is carried by the grease).

It will create drag and slow the car, but a very small amount might be negligible.

I'm not trying to argue but in certain manuals (Associated) they specifically say not to put any lubrication on the gears because it could cause the gears to slip and strip.

I rebuild my entire diff about every 6-8 runs, and clean it after every days running.

I take them all outand just wash them until there is NO dirt and NO grease. Then, I lube the 1/16" balls and assemble that part (forgot name) thats connected to the screw with 2 washers, and lube it with the black grease. Then, I take out and wash the rings until theres no dirt or grease on them, I then sand them with like an 800 grit sand paper, and put a VERY little bit of that clear grease stuff on the back, JUST ENOUGH to hold them to the outdrives. Then I reassemble the diff and tighten to where I had before. Thats what I do with my GT.
