It's really your choice, you cant go wrong with any R/C car you get (cept Losi, hehe j/k). All are good, all are hop-upable, and all are the same...fun. Here's what I feel what each car was built for/what I THINK of it:
DuraTrax Max ST Pro - This is actually a cool truck. I've seen one run before, theyre really meant for backyard bashing only. I heard the parts are weak, but they are pretty cool.
HPI Nitro MT 4x4 - I dont know much about this truck, except that I heard it breaks a lot. I have never seen one run, so I dont know their goods or bads. But I bet 4wd is a plus.
RC10GT - any version of the GT is great, almost unlimited hop-up potention (if there is a limit!). If its a tub chassis, theyre still goof, but you might want to upgrade to a Team with flat chassis. But if it is the newer ones, and you want to hop up them, get a killer racing engine, fast servos, and good equipment (sp?). You'll be unstopable ANYWHERE. I've gotten my GT 13 feet high and an average of 8 feet high, not to mention it tears up my track http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif I guess you can say im biased.
Traxxas Rustler - This is a nive little truck. Dont bother racing it though, they have a disadvantage in the weight department, very heavy, and have trouble starting with that EZ Start. They're OK jumping trucks, although i'd opt 100% for a GT over any of these machines. Its meant to be a small, entry level basher, that people over power http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

My advice would be to stay away from the Duratrax. This was my first nitro vehicle and it was an absolute nightmare. I sold it and decided I would never use nitro again. Then a friend of mine showed me his various nitro cars and I fell back in love with them. I have 2 now and I totally love them. The 2 people I know who still have a duratrax are still fighting it to keep it going. T-maxx is a ton of fun and so is the GT. Stick with one of those 2 and you won't regret it. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

AE GT all the way!!
The HPI Nitro Mt would get my vote. Ive had one since Christmas and havent broken anything at all. The included engine isnt that bad..... Go for the NMT. It has the best company forum. www.hpiracing.com (http://www.hpiracing.com)

The only bad thing I have to say about the Max ST is Duratrax should make Stainless Steel Hinge Pins. You add a good air filter and a hotter plug like an O.S. #8 or A3, it will bring the Torq. Engines to life.
The only part broken on my NMT was when my son wrecked head on with an aluminum flagpole. If you have any questions on either truck e-mail me.

I'm going to have to say a GT. They take more knowledge to run than NMTs but from my experiences I have found them to be more durable once you know what you are doing. I'm not pleased with my NMT right now because 1 flip broke the pipe, broke a ball end, and lost a dog bone and it wasn't that hard of a hit.
Its up to you in the end. I will admit the NMT is fun to drive just due to the 4wd but there are a few weak points that need to be upgraded. The GT is great. Its fast, its durable, and its race worthy. The only complaint I have about it are the stock spur gears; they don't take a lot to strip.
