I had a chance to look at the GT and sit in it... :D
Emission test vehicle was brought in my building for a day and all building tenants were happy to see it. Since it was for emission test, it had all correct powertrain hardware. Indeed everything were production intent except it didn't have exterior paint on it.

Truely amazing car.... Race car like chassis frame and 5.4L S/C engine were awesome. Being almost a race car, getting into and out of car was extremely hard. Once I thought Chevy Camero was bad for ergonamics but this GT was really really low to the ground.

I don't think it's faster (in specs at least) than the Enzo but I could be wrong.

I was expecting to see a monster GT(40) like the rock crawler those guys made on Monster Garage. :p

the new ford GT40 is built to compete in the market share of cars like lamborghini gallardo and ferrari 360 modena.

cars like the ferrari enzo and lamborghini murcielago should outclass the GT40 in price and performance.

I had the privledge to sit in one and it's extremely nice. Ic0nn was right about the preformance the goal of Ford was to out preform the 360 and only had 25 weeks to design it. They didn't wimp out and make it a cheap car like the new GTO (freakn' pontiac).

I wonder if they pump up the power in the GT engine if it would be able to beat an Enzo. I saw a tv show on this car and when they put a mustang cobra engine in it, it beat the Ferrari and with the new engine they designed it killed it.

The GTO is no a cheap car man. it is $31,000. When the GTO came out in the 60s they cost like less than $2000. It was a beast. I wasnt around in that time but my grandpa had one.

Would only the white striping be included? I hope not!

What are the best paints available to paint a color like that?

Been thinking of the Gulf colors too, the problem is: where can you find the RIGHT color? :S

I doubt it. They didn't listen to people asking for them a couple of years ago when they had a forum on their site, why would they listen now? It's too bad to because they are nice looking bodies.

How about a Ford Pantera body? Theres a classic also. Could do a faux motor under the rear window too.
Some company should start up some muscle car tires/wheels combos.
Looks like some interest here maybe?

Umm would anyone else agree with me that HPI should make a muscle line? like the old Ford GT, a GTO, 60's Mustang, Challenger, Charger, etc FOR TOURERS! I actually like modern supercars, but i wouldnt mind having a nice charger body on my CEN.... yeah.... i said CEN... which means the body would probably be the best part about my car... Anyways i hope HPI reads these things so they can get an idea about what people want from them.

It would be awsome if HPI made muscle cars for tourers (and micros) because the make nice looking bodies. The 3 they made for the Savage look great. Mag wheels would be cool too like the ones HobbyTech(?) used to make.

That body doesn't look that close to the real GT. Something looks off, I think it's extending down too much. With some creative sculpting, someone could make it into an impressive concourse.

I don't know, I just don't trust american engineering in sports cars. Fast in a straight line, recovery crew in turns.

As for the Gulf Oil GT40, I saw that car last month at a concourse show in Beverly Hills. They had 2 GT40's and the new GT in the same section, I completely passed by the GT initially because that gulf oil '40 caught my eye. I actually had a british classic car magazine that had an article on that car, it even gave the names of the colors but I threw it a way a couple of years ago.

Well, the Ford GT competed well in Top Gear yesterday. A GREAT British car program on BBC2, look here for more info.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/prog21/gt.shtml

They have a race track on an airfield where "the STIG" tests sports cars, it has a lot of corners, believe me ;) The GT has the second fastest time!!!

Same magazine ran a comparison between the Gallardo, 360 and 911 Turbo. Gallardo at the front of the group with the turbo right behind it, drafting, and the 360 somewhere a few turns back.

I'd still put my money on a RUF, Gemballa or TechArt modified GT2 or the new GT3RSR.

Now has anybody seen the car in any color besides red with white? Video games don't count.

my neighbor had a cobra w/ a standard alum. 427, and it hauled some ass. in an AC 427 all aluminum cobra, you can wave at a viper while passing him doing a burnout in a race, some company really needs to make a 1/10 cobra, gt500, or a shelby daytona coupe. that would be awsome

ThaFlash_LA
07-21-2004, 01:25 AM
GT350/500 shell would really be cool. I'd also like the cobra, open air shell for your rc. Probably couldn't race it but you wouldn't want to with that shell either. Some other classics I'd like are the Porsche (California) Carrera RS, Aston Martin DB5, Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.

Yesterday, when I was going to a meeting, I saw one test car coming towards me. It was dark silver with black strips.
Truly looked awesome. I really wished I had money...
Yes, the HPI's GT looks little worse than the actual GT.

So far I have seen 5-6 different GT's but most of them were early prototypes for various tests. The silver one I saw yesterday was the most complete visually.

Several of the current Ford GT's proportions have been changed slightly from the original GT40 Mk1... there were engineering concerns that could only be addressed by the adaptations. It does look "off" compared to the original Mk1, and of course, the R/C adaptation would have to be "off"... the sides have to go pretty much straight down so it can clear the width of many/most of the chassis it will be used with.

If you'd like to enjoy the beautiful shape and proportions of the original as compared to the HPI shell...

If you're interested in finding out about the way the body had to be adapted, check back issues of Road & Track or Car & Driver. I have also seen a one hour show about the development saga on Discovery or Speed Channel... can't remember which, but it was an excellent presentation.

Too bad that the heatsink of the motor sticks out... Maybe they should design a wider (wider to the left or wider to the front of the car) in stead of a high one... Tamiya had that, or?

I especially like the Gulf colors and I wonder what decals they will include? Will you be able to just choose a livery, cause THAT would be NICE! ;)

I had something else in mind too. The current Ford GT has far more rounded sides. Would it maybe be possible, with for example some hot water, to round the sides of this body by yourself... ? Anyone tried this on another body?

If your chassis is narrow enough, you could fabricate some 1/4" square (in cross section) styrofoam blocks to attach to the siderails of the chassis with servo tape, then attach a strip of velcro to the body side of the styro and to the inside of the body, and when the body is on the posts and attached securely, you just push the sides of the body in until the velcro engages.

You could even skip using body posts if you were doing it for a concours competition.

They should have put a black "fade" decal for the sideskirt giving the illusion of the side being curved inward for that vintage look.
Im definetely getting this and painting it a dark color, with some Kyosho Vintage wire or vintage 6 spoke wheels! will look absolutely sensational.

I hate spoilers myself but from my own experience, Nitro cars handle poorly without a wing. I've tried using the HPI BMW M5 body which doesn't have any wing posts but it just kept spinning out. I then tried a Pro-Line 350Z body without the wing and same thing as the M5, just kept spinning out. The Ford GT body has a molded in wing but I wonder if thats enough to keep the rear end planted? Anyone on these posts try this body without a wing?

Yep, that's a screenshot of Gran Turismo 4. To be honest, to idea of the GT having a spoiler didn't sound so nice when I first heard it, but when I saw the intro of GT4 I was completely "in love". The car is awesome, the true name is Ford GT LM '04. I wonder if it really exists, because my dad said that he read something about ford wanting to drive Le Mans once again with the Ford GT.
To me it looks really good, a real race car and I think at speed of 50mph+ it is really necessary for R/C Cars.

If somebody have pics of the included wing of the HPI Ford GT, please show them!

Btw, here is a link to the intro vid of GT4, turn on your stereo, put it really loud, hold yourself to your desk and watch this amazing video featuring The Ford GT LM and many other cars in Gran Turismo 4! http://www.gamesmediamirror.com/news_1240_en.html
