View Full Version : Magazine coverage???????????
Just wondering what it will take to get out charity race covered in RCCA.
We expect allmost 300 entries, thats more than the offroad mod nats, and this is for charity.
With 539 members of the Biff Racing Team, I would be inclined to think it would be benificial for everyone for the race to be covered. Thats alot of people buying the magazine, and possibly getting alot of new loyal subscribers.
At least, thats how I see it.
A little about the team itself.
What started as a few guys joking around at the track in 1995, has turned into the largest RC car racing team in the world. There are members from Japan, South America, Australia, Canada, Holland, Malta and all over the US. Members range from back yard bashers running their legends cars, to owners from major manufacturers and former world champions and national champions. Until the advent of the Internet, and this web site, Trinitys Tech Talk, there were only a handful of members in the Houston Texas area. The word spread like wildfire about the Biff Racing Team.
This team has a purpose. Mainly, to grow the hobby as much as possible. This can be done many ways. The Internet is a very good way. Others include RC car demonstrations in high profile areas, like at monster truck shows, shopping malls and so on. Were still new at these demos, but will be moving ahead soon.
Getting new racers at our tracks and keeping them interested is a major challenge, and is very time consuming. The key, we believe, is to help out the new racers. Get them educated on everything they need to know about RC, from cleaning motors, to actually learning to drive better. We truly believe that a new guy will continue to race if he/she has a chance at winning and not getting smoked every week, or getting yelled at by the local loudmouth. Ive seen it happen.
We also have an annual charity race, called the Biff Racing Charity Challenge. It benefits the Shriners Hospital for children. Last year, we had 125 entries and raised over $2350. This year, we hope to have 300 entries, magazine coverage, and hopefully TV coverage. A little RC car exposure, while doing charity work, is a win win situation. You would have had to been there to understand the atmosphere at this race. I cannot even begin to describe it. But we believe that within a few years, this may be THE race to be at. We hope to have a bigger and better race than the nationals. Im not alone when I say, we can do it. Two very cool, and world famous racers, even wrote articles in R/C Car magazine about it. Matt Francis, and Jimmy Babcock. I was overwhelmed, believe me.

I agree. This will become one of the biggest races of the year. It will get magazine coverage eventually, why not start now?

Yeah, I've subscribed to CarActionMagazine for 5+ years now. I'd love to see coverage of a race that I'm actually gonna participate in!
I'm sure that most all of the subscribers would love to see more coverage of regional type races, especially a "Charity Race" with a 300 racer turnout.
Now, I just need to concentrate on making the A-main! LOL
Later...

I agree! This race is attracting such racers as Matt Francis,Jimmy Babcock, etc. So, I would think this race should attract some magazine coverage. Just my $.02.

Yes...BRT Member #534 here. I believe that any kind of charity in the RC World would benefit any onlooker's to the hobby. It shows that we are not in it for the soul purpose of competition but to learn from one another and like a large family help each other in our deepest moments of need... I think this should be a front page column that expresses that us as racers not delimited to the Biff Racing Team Show gratitude towards others in need and not just obsessed with what's the hottest model of R/C car out on the market... Biff in my own words is a good man, he has brought together a great family in the hobby of R/C that is devoted towards helping others by including them and not rejecting them... I maybe just one voice, but I am proud to say that I am a Biff Racing Team member knowing that I hold a posture of goodwill towards others and a helping hand to anyone who needs it. A little coverage of this story will go a long way which in a business sense will allow RCCA to grow rapidly... This is BRT member #534 Signing off 'Good will towards men/women and all racers' L8r, Kevin Gutierrez~ http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif PS: Kitty your going Down! hehe :P

I agree about the coverage, but unfortunately this is not the place to discuss it. If we are unable to get anybody there feel free to take pictures and get some results Greg or I will use it in Racer News. Biff bring a camera and take some notes!

For the benefit of those whose messages have been deleted, we don't tolerate suggestions that our decisions as to which race to cover is based on who pays us to cover what. We cover EVERY event at our own expense. If you cant handle posting a suggestion or request that we cover a race in a more mature manner, don't post at all. RCCA sux, now cover this race!? That'll work.
There are 300 to 400 races a year with high levels of attendance - we have 12 issues in which to cover them - it's pretty simple math. People involved with every one of those races can make a strong case for coverage, all of them with the same good points as those posted here. Everyone wants their own race covered, but we obviously can't do that.
Gary - thank you for letting us know about the race. We will take a look at the schedule and see if we can make the case for coverage.

300-400 races a year with over 300 racers?????????????
i would like to maturely request where in the world do you get that number????
my guess would be more like 30-40 races a year in this country that draw that many racers.....
