A couple of newbie questions. Got my first nitro last year a duratrax maximum bx. I've had to learn a little about nitro's by fixing up a few things on the car.

I've learned alot of things on this site already. I've used some of the knowledge to convert the suspension to a ST suspension. Longer dogbones, turnbuckles and such.

Now I have tire questions.

1. Do all 1/10 tires have the hex nut drive on the back of the rims?
What I was trying to do is use some truck tires on the rear, like the maximum ST size, but use dirt hawg III buggy tires on the front. But I would like to find the same rims but different sizes, you know truck width on the back but buggy width on the front.

2. I've noticed that mine are 2.2 size. I gather that is the diameter, but I've seen other 2.2 on tower hobbies that are different widths. Are the wider ones truck 2.2's? With all the choices it's sometimes confusing.

3. Last question is this if I put universal ST dogbones on my bx do the wheel shafts just screw out? How do you keep the transmission from spinning so you can get them out? I gather the universals just screw in place of the wheel shafts.

I gotta say alot of you take alot of time to help us new ones out. Sometimes we ask alot of redundant questions.

In advance thank you very much for your help.

Yes, the 2.2 is the diameter. The truck rims are a bit wider, and as far as I know, should bolt right up w/ no problems...I haven't used them so I can't say for sure, but I'm almost positive they're the same...

If you want to run truck 2.2 tires on the back of your buggy, they should work, I think. The guys who race electric off-road will be able to answer that question for sure though.

As for the last question, I don't understand what you're asking...what's the "wheel shaft?"

Universal dog bones is what I want to install. How do you get the old wheel shafts out, the dog bones slide into them and the transmission turns them?

I was wondering what's the easiest way to get them unscrewed out? Do you just use a screwdriver?

Thanks for your help. Hope the picture helps. Still not great with the names.

Sorry wrong picture. Next post is right.

Actually this is what they fit into. Do they screw out or what ? I can't find anything that tells me how to put the universal dogbones in and how to get the old ones out.

Thanks

For the out drive axle(dark colored part), it's held on by a couple methds a roll pin that goes through center of shaft or by a set screw or c-clip. Univeral dog dones are usually one piece (shaft and axle) have less end play than a standard dogbone and output axle setup. You may not need the output drive cup (chrome colored part) unless the new combo uses a bigger cup and pin.

Some companies make replacement wheels to fit a brand or type of vehicle, The hex pattern helps against wheel slipping on hub, with wheel and tires sized (diameter and width) for a style of vehicle. 2.2 buggy rims will be the same diameter but narrower than a truck, the truck tire could be used but tire may not provide full contact or be too wide to clear suspension parts.

You can download the manuals for the Duratrax ST (in PDF format) on the Duratrax site.

bullmastiff, the outdrive cups in the second picture attach using set screws (also known in some circles as grub screws). Here's a link (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJJ45&P=7) to some on Tower. They are screws with a recessed hex hole in one end. You use a hex key/wrench to install/remove them. They usually attach to an output shaft of some sort that may have a flat or recessed area where the set screw binds against the shaft to hold the outdrive cup on. Hope this made sense.
