I'm having problems with Bud. When is gaining speed she start to raise the left ponton from the water and because this frustrating behavior I'm unable to reach top speed.. What I have to look to correct this problem.

If I might ask, have you made any modifications or changes to the boat, or is it totally stock from thebox?

Hydro,

Joel Sent me an email,I give him the scoop on the many issues with this hull.Of course you know my way of fixing this issue.I also told him that he will be doing fiberglass repairs where the hull is joined.I did not want to shoot the miss bud down, but as time and repairs are done, its looking like a shelf ornament in the near future.Salvage the 260 zen,and the radio --- move on to the next project.

It's probably better he contacted you instead of me. Did you suggest he build a Budweiser instead, so he can still have one? You know me, build first and ask questions later. LOL

Hi Hydro:

I'm planning to cutoff the front canard and make a modification to allow me to change the angle of attack of the canard once I re-install it. I think this will be better modification than to add lead on the front left ponton. Personally I hate to add weight to keep the nose down.

Lead CAN be your friend, if used sparingly. I'm not sure how much Hydromania told you, but lifting the left sponson(the name of the front "pontoons") is usually due to torque at the prop. Are you giving your boat a throw start or just dropping it in the water and hitting the gas? A throw start might solve your lifting problem. As for cutting off the canard, I would try several different settings and see where the boat runs the best, then glass or epoxy it back on. That way, you won't have to worry about hitting it and changing the setting, as well as giving the sponsons more support.

Hi Hydro:

I use the throw start technique, just a the point of half way acceleration the boat start to raise the nose...more than air flow lifting that anything else. The faster I go the higher the pontons go. I'll be working this weekend with the canard modification and i'll be posting my success.

Hi Hydro Junkie and Hydromania:

I'm back....After a horrible accident with my Bud (felt down from the stand 6 feet high .... ) I had to repair the huge crack front to back left side... ). Well you can imagine.... :( I'm back in bussiness again.
First Modification - I change the prop to a H30. With this prop I gain a lot more speed and control (I can accelerate almost to the end.) Now my bud just bounce on the corners and stay down on the SAW..(Good news... )
Second Modification - I increase 5 degress the angle of the strut...(adding a plastic spacer between the strut and the bottom. Results; full acceleration without any intention to blow over. I think that the aerodinamics of this boat will change greatly with the speed. I had notice that the faster you go...more stable it's turn. I'm not going to change my angle of attack from the front canard as I was thinking two months ago.
Now I'll looking to correct the turnfin angle to see if the turn goes more smooth. Any suggestions?

Make a larger skid fin. I would go maybe 20-30% larger. Also, if you are putting it on with two screws, slot the upper one so you can adjust the angle it sits at. Being able to adjust the skidfin can help smooth out the corners, depending on water conditions.

Hi Hydro Junkie:
Thanks you very much for the tip. I'll making the slot to be able to adjust the angle. I'll be on the lagoon on sunday. I'll be posting my results on monday.

Decoy, just wait a few weeks. I've got three Saturdays and one Sunday to go to SCALE HYDROPLANE RACES. I'll have to take my camera along so I can get some pics to show you what a REAL NICE BOAT LOOKS LIKE :D Who knows, you might want one of these instead :)

Hi Decoy and Hydro Junkie:

Decoy I'm a Bud-Hydro-Additive. I have the little-pain-1/12 and the-big-pain-1/8, as you call it, but let my tell you something, after you make all the mods and trims these red-scale-beats give you a great satisfaction. Not to mention the comments when you run against others.....and win :D I know is a challenge to achieve, but is not what is all about for the hobby...!!!!
Regards Joel :D
