View Full Version : Silvia S15
I just got an HPI Sprint just to mess around with to do some drifting on my street. Neighbors been getting all up in my face over my nitro drifting. I can't blame them. So I reserve my nitro drifts for the parking lots and elec drifts for my street.
As first order of "buisness", I had to change that purple porsche body for something more... appealing...
The choice of colors was due to what extra paints I had lying around the house (Black and gunmetal). And masking only went as far as how much vinyl sticker I had left. i just did this this morning.

After doing it, I noticed that the paint scheme is somewhat similar or Toxic's 350Z.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna intercooler, mesh, rollcage, exhaust, light up the car, but I masked the lights just in case... I want to be able to drive some of my bodies....

MMMMMMMM... Silviaaaaaaa... shweeeeeet... dude! that is freakin nice!!! ok, one more time... FREAKIN SHWEEET!!! :D
I tried something different this time. I decided to put in a roll cage but as I started it, I said, you guessed it "Why Not?" and so, this is what I came up with.

Just a simple rollcage... but wait, there's more!!!

I wanted to make a complete rollcage but it can't be done for a silvia body because the front wheelwells have almost no clearance with the hood. I can't squeeze the cage through and make it runable. The cage is fastened down to the chassis.

What do you use to make your rollcages. Iss it pieces of parts trees or platsic tubing? They look awesome and I want to try one on my TC3. Thanks for the info.
Not another case of the "Why Nots?"...
I wanted to add an exhaust, so I started seaching around for tips on making an exhaust. But one thing always came up, the exhaust had to be mounted to the body.

Then it hit me, it doesn't have to be on the body... I have a rollcage. Slap it there!!!
And so I did.

NOTE: The cage is sturdy (as sturdy as straws can be) and will take a beating.
It brainstromed to me, that on my last body, I modded the body. For this "body" I want to see how far I can mod the chassis.
Does anyone know if the HPI Rally Inner Body can fit on a Sprint? Perhaps with a little coaxing?

The HPI inner should fit on most TC bodies since the HPI Rally uses 200mm bodies. It might take a little "coaxing" on the Silvia since there is less clearance, but should work. So you use straws?! It looks great!
yeah, straws and chrome tape.
I figured that it would fit with coaxing, I guess I know what I have to order now...
what did you make the muffler out off  im defintly building a roll cage for my body :D

Battery and some tubing. I went with brass cause I feel that the goldish shine gives more oomph than classic chrome

So how much more MPH does it add? :p
thanks for the tip you have some great talent :D
man Kuya...you've inspired me to try some of those things now lol....need a nice body first though...
but lucky me i have both an HPI Sprint and RS4 Rally. The sprint is in peices though...so ill use my Rally car and convert it to road.....plus the rally has a carbon fiber chassis anyways so it has alot of room and will run better.
lol but man both of those cars are really nice...color shcemes and all fit nicely...abd the detail is incredibly....great job!
"...you've inspired me to try some of those things now lol" just like trw said :D

Kuya, how did you do the lience plate?

Kuya, how did you do the lience plate?

I designed it myself using Adobe Photoshop. I searched the net till I found a picture of my provinces plate, then used it as a guide to design my own. Then it was all a matter of resizing, printing it, and backing onto polystyrene.
This is the original:

And this is my remake from scratch:

Now that I think about it, I should put a plate on my silvia... But this time, a different country... ;)
oh so thats how you do it thats simple :D no offense :D

Ok, I guess this means I am gonna have to step it up a notch and dig a little deeper into the "how can I make my R/C car look more like a real car" sicknees in my brain and see what I can pull out for the GTR I am working on. Above and beyond the Eclipse from last winter.

Great job! You want to see an R/C made to look like a real car? I shot some video of a 1/5th scale Porche GT1 car at our last race. This thing has removeable front/rear clips, carbon fiber ground effects, lights, dash with lights, data logging & telemitry and more. Maybe it will give you ideas for your car.
Check out ruffles.neptune.com (http://ruffles.neptune.com) and click on the video in the gallery.

i like that idea about the licence plate. such a simply thing, but makes the car look that extra bit realistic :)
time to find plates for Western Australia ;)

I've been searching the HPI site and found something strangely wierd and wierdly strange. On the UK, they sell a Sprint, a Sprint GTi, and a Sprint Rally. Now I've ben looking at the rally version's exploded diagram and found out something odd. it's the same car as the sprint. Exact all the way with 2 exceptions. in the NA sprint, we have long shocks in the back and shorts in the front. in the UK sprint rally, the shocks are long for both front and back.
That, and the chassis is slightly altered.
So, I just tried to move around the springs in the rear and front and found that just a few simple adjustments, the car has clearance the same if not a little lower than the Road Star 4 Rally. In the UK, there is an inner body set for the sprint rally. now the NA inner body kit fits on Pro2 Sport and after a lot of comparing diagrams and part numbers, I came to the speculation/realization that:
the Sprint, Sprint GTi, Sprint Rally, Pro2 Sport, and RS4 Rally all have similar chassis' and similar parts, of which almost are all interchangable.
I can't prove it until my inner body comes in but if I'm right, then to make a Sprint/Pro2 Sport rally ready, all you need to do is move the shock in a different area, and slap on some rally tires and inner body, and possibly do some chassis shaving to get the inner body to fit...
To mount the inner body, I'm 99% positive that the locks would have to be in different places... and i can't wait till I get it because I have some plans that, if I can pull off, will up the ante in the realism department, moreso than what people have thought up so far.
