Aside from the obvious thing of buying precut masking, I know some other guys use liquid mask. I also know that some others will use vinyl cutting programs to cut custom masks. It all depends on how wild you're willing to go. Typically, I prefer either liquid mask or to cut my own mask by hand using 3M masking tape. It's tedious and frustrating, but I prefer my own personal designs. Something else you might want to try is sending a PM to folks like Charlie B, the King, or Haunted Myst. Those guys are extreme artists and definitely the people you want to emulate.

I have used all of the various methods with mixed results. I have been painting for over 15 years, so I've tried it all. This is the general proceedure I follow:
1. Prep body
2. Draw design on outside of body with permanent marker
3. Use liquid mask or (this is a trade secret, don't tell everyone) vinyl decal transfer tape. It's like masking tape but thinner and more flexible. Also, it doesn't leave a residue on the body like some masking tape does.
4. Trim masking and paint
Yes, it is more complicated than that, but that is the general idea. I am working on a series of "how to paint" videos that will probably be done late Summer. I had a majority of them done before we had our fire, but now we have to start over.
