Go for a Novak Super Rooster or something.

YOur first thing should be a good ESC. The Duratrax is good if you're on a budget, but if you can get something better, do it. I run a Tekin G12cIII esc, super low resistance, no motor limit and can handle any amount of power you can throw at it. I got it used about 2years ago for $75. Look around on swap/sell boards and ebay if you want a good deal.

Assuming you get a good ESC, I would recommend nothing lower than a 10turn motor, anything lower and you risk chewing up the gears.

If you don't have them already, get bearings or any mod motor you get will eat the plastic bushings alive. Get the TA03 Super Low Friction Damper set. All four shocks and a set of blue(stiff) springs are included. All you'd need is oil.(i use 50wt) If you want aluminum, GPM and Megatech make parts. GPM parts are blue and Megatech's are purple. The only aluminum parts available from Tamiya that fit the TL01 are the TG10 Rear Aluminum uprights... which conicidentally, I have and am selling.(check the Buy/Sell board) A full GPM aluminum set up will run you about $150 total and the Megatech parts will run you about $90. You can buy it all seperately though but shipping costs would add up quick. I'm personally getting the GPM set, for a few reasons. 1) I like blue. 2) The GPM C-Hubs come with bearings.
If you'd really like to know what all you can do to the TL01 search for "My Project TL01" in the Electric Forum. I have a link there to my personal website walking you through my build up. Any more questions, just email me. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Project pretty much summed it up, but i would say a set of bearings should be the very first, then the ESC then the shocks, Check out novak or tekin, there the best, no duratrax. I had a spike and it died on the maubiyatchie

Id say the rebel is good. I have one and it runs awsome, easy to set up ect. Although it looks as though tekin has gone down the drain. Ive heard their support is bad so if you have a problem you might not get help. my 0.0004 cents (Canadian)

I'd stay away from tekin for now. Not because they're not any good, but there are a lot of rumors going around that they may be going out of business soon.

they better not be going out of buisness! my rebel (which is great) is in the mail getting repaired, it got submerged in a huge puddle that jumped out in front of me.....

I actually think Tekin isnt being put to sleep, they are still selling ESC's right? and many ppl are still getting their stuff fixed, so don't say anything til yuo are sure.

I never said they WERE going out of business. I said there were a lot of RUMORS that they were. I just thought it might be good to let you all know that in case they were true.

Ok, now that the conversation has taken a turn off topic, here is my take on the original question.

Don't skimp on the ESC. I've done this and you just end up spending more down the line for something with more power or capabilities. Save up and get something like a Novak Fusion or Reactor if you want reverse. As far as motors go, get yourself a Peak Stratus. Their fast, reliable, have bearings and most importantly, they aren't a Trinity product. NEVER EVER buy Trinity.
