*sigh* those were the days. One thing I noticed was that it was a lot funnier back then, with some oddball humorous articles in it. What happened with all that? There were little things that were pretty interesting, like the "News Briefs" having "briefs" in the logo, hehe. Anyways, I'm just reminiscing the good ole days, when a Bruiser could be had for $400

yea i found a '98 RCCA mag. in my closet. Not too long ago but the hobby has definitely come a long way! There wasn't even any RTR's from AE or many companies. it was cool to flip through though haha.

I have all but about 10 issues dating back to April 1989 through mid 2003. Still fun to look back at the old mags and look at the stuff we thought was hot stuff back then. FX10, King Cab, pan cars, buggies converted to racing trucks.....

i found a july 97 issue in my stuff the other day. also have a touring car roundup issue from 96/97 timeframe. interesting stuff indeed.

i had a subscription to rcca in the late 80's but doubt any of the mags are still around though. now those would be fun to read. :)

hmm the only thing i HAD that was old was an old 2-stroke gasoline powered RC buggy my uncle had, it had copper colors bars and had a Shell logo on it, you know the gas station Shell. and It had neon orange rims with soft pucky tires, my mom thought it was trash and threw it away like 5 years ago lol, im mad now

cause with all my knowledge i have now, i could have probably got it working again. plus it beeing gasoline powered would have made the fuel cheap.

o and it was 1/8th scale to.

ok no offense here, but after a quick check of your profile(D.O.B - 10/87), how old could this mag be?

now im only 24 years old, but i remember the days of gold tub RC-10's, CAM motors, & Jrx2's. then when i got interested in RC again, there were the days of the Airtronics Caliber, FSR Bullet, and the RS4 Mini. now im sure some of you older guys will shut me down and talk about Cox 0.10(or whatever) RC's and old 'glas RC12's, but im just trying to enjoy my moment of remeniscing.

I got the first issue, when they were published quarterly up to 1998 when I suscribed to RCCA. Things got bad money wise and had to cut back on alot of pleasures for awhile, now I buy a monthly issue now and then.

Also have issues of the other two magazines until they went out of business, Competition Plus and RC Model Cars.

Hmm..my oldest mag is '97 or '98. Real cool to see what was hot those days and how RC's exploded once RTR's came about. Found some very old RC books at my library too. Talking like late 80's and early 90's. Yeah, I'm a nerd for actually taking out these books. :D

I have a lot of issues dating back 16 years now. I have an issue from '88 that had a Monster Truck shootout between the Big Brute, High Roller, Big Bear, Lunch Box, Midnight Pumpkin, Blackfoot, Monster Beetle, Bruiser, and Clod Buster. I also have an issue from '87 or '88 that has a 4wd shootout between the Schumacher Cat, Tamiya Avante, Yokomo C-4, and Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE. Ahh, the memories. Maybe I should go and take my Avante out for a spin...

Mtn bkr,
I have been looking for the name of a car from around the mid 80's. It was a red sandrail type dunebuggy. nitro or gas powered 4wd. It was the first fuel powered buggys i remember reading about. I don't think it had breaks and i'm almost positive it didn't have a clutch. I do remember in the article that during testing it climbed a tree and hit a chainlink fence going really fast and ended up going under the fence or something like that. I think it was in RCCA. Do you hqappen to see anything like that in your old mags or does anybody remember it?

Thanks,
Chris

No I don't think it was. Actually right after I wrote this I saw the classic thread and SteveP said he had reviewed the Vanning in 85 I think that one was it. Hopefully Steveponds will check this thread and confirm that for me. Its been driving me crazy for years.

I used to have issues as far back as '85. Back then, the magazine was quarterly or bi-monthly. They were labeled Winter '85, Spring '85 and on down the line. Anyways, I can't seem to find them now. Something tells me that they were thrown away by my mom. :( A bit of advice, when you leave home for college, take your mags with you!! Or lock the door to your bedroom. :D

I believe it was the Vanning, the early Kyosho cars bascially all used a ladder type frame, the early Ultimas used the same chassis designs changes later to a single or double deck layout.
