Right now I have a Stampede with a SG 17t Amber and the stock esc. The stock esc burn up so now I only have reverse. I was planning on getting a Novak Explorer or a Duratrax Streak as a replacement. On Tower's descrptions it says they come with motor capacitors. Do I need to use them? I'm kinda hoping I don't need them because I don't have a soldering iron.

Tower's description also says that my motor has three capacitors already installed. Does that mean I don't need the ones form the esc?

Most esc's come with capacitors. You dont need them if you motor has them pre-installed.

I'm pretty sure the caps that comes with them are for noise reduction only, that's what I read in the instructions for my AE B4.. So see if you have a problem with noise first. I'm assuming the noise affects radio reception.

If the motor has them built in then you don't need them, simple as that. If you get a foward only speed controll you may have to solder on a shocktiy (sp?) diode though. The instructions will tell you if this needs to be done, the duratrax streak needs one.

Spikes caused from not using caps on your motor "may" damage your speed control.
its unlikely but it does happen.

Most modern motors use surface mount caps inside the endbell, so you dont need the extra ones novak supply.

If you dont have a soldering iron, maybe you know somebody who can help you?
if not it might be a good idea to get one and learn.
