for some reason i'm never happy unless i'm breaking something...but i think i took it a little too far this time. this happened today while i was running and testing props for my nitro hammer. i did get to test the x427 before snapping my crank...and it's a good prop. good acceleration, little to no cavitation, and improved top speed.

Wow !!,thats alot of torque to bust that .

BoatDoc
06-11-2004, 10:41 PM
well...it was ported and polished. with a new pipe. and a little extra nitro. so, i'll just attribute this one to "stress limits." that or it's just a poorly made mass-produced motor that shouldn't be modified!!!!

awsom!!!!!!! I like breaking stuff too.

Now Doc, I was telling someone today how good the "Hammer" series of boats are, only to have you do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I remember right, you said you like to beat the crap out of "Whirley Birds" with a "Hammer", so why did you beat the crap out of "A Hammer"? Shouldn't you have used a chopper to wreck the boat? After all, turnabout is fair play, isn't it? :p

BoatDoc

well, hydro, it goes like this...due to a bad shoulder, it's hard to swing hammers. so i've just found a different way of going about my business. just wait, my dynamite .15 will be in my hammer by sunday...he he he...that one's modded out too. we're going to see just how fast a hammer can "swing."

Need I say it..............WE WANT PICS!!!!!!!!

BoatDoc
06-12-2004, 12:21 AM
this is the best pic i could get...it was taken about a minute or two before the engine smoked itself. the boat throws very little rooster tail so it doesn't look that fast in the pic...but let me tell you!!! she's a handful.

Hydro Junkie

In case you forgot, there's more to speed than a "Huge" tail

BoatDoc
06-12-2004, 12:31 AM
...and another

You can tell by looking at that last photo that she's moving out. Check out the distance to the wake. lol.

HydroJunkie hit it head on when he stated there's more to speed than a huge tail. My buddy is running a 1000+ $ MHZ setup and it throws one of the hugest tails I've seen. Problem is, it tops out around 32mph. Doh! (he knows everything by the way)

BoatDoc

it's about to go faster!!!! the dynamite motor is ported and awaiting reassembly. i just need to modify my mounts a little bit and slide it into the hull. braking that crank was just the excuse i needed to do this swap.

Chris LaPanse
06-12-2004, 04:43 PM
well, the Hammer will never throw a huge tail-it has a subsurface drive.

Ron Olson

Huge 'tails are cool, kinda like smokin' tires on a drag car! To much 'tail is maikng the prop not as efficient. You want one, but a longer one is better than a tall one.
I know what you mean about sneezin' motors. I can't blow up the cheap ones! Nooooo, I've blown a Nova Rossi, Kalistratov .45 (twice!) and an O.S. .46. Yeah, those babies were 'spensive!

Hydro Junkie

Consider yourself lucky, Ron. I've seen brand new Mac .67s turned into junk in seconds, and those things are even spendier. Besides, it takes a real pro to destroy a Kalistratov or an O S. They are "supposed" to be bullet proof.

Here's a guy doing 120+ in a family four seater single powered outboard hull. Though fullscale, the same thing holds true about the rooster. We have a saying, long & about cowl high is the best. A little off subject but thats my first love.

Can't wait to hear how this engine runs in the hull. Better yet, can't wait to hear how the hull handles the engine. But thats the fun part right?

the dynamite motor is installed!!! all i have to do is a few final adjustments and charge up the RX batt and she'll be ready for more. i should have some pics of the new motor tomorrow, and action pics over the weekend.

Looking forward to seeing them!.What size is the dynamite and what is the h.p. rating on it?.

BoatDoc
06-15-2004, 08:44 PM
here's a pic of the test fit of the dynamite motor. it's the .15 from the miss bud. i don't know the hp rating for it or anything. but all the ports have been reworked and smoothed out. i'll be running it on 30% monster hp fuel from trinity. one thing i DO know for sure is the fact that it is of better quality than the original motor and it's more powerful.

Ron Olson

If anyone is looking for an alternative motor for their Miss Bud, try an HPI .15 SS. The head is a water-cooling head is a bolt-on.

hey ron...i've got an idea in mind for my miss crud's new engine. but i'm not saying anything else until i test it out!!!! i usually don't keep secrets, but this time i have to. i hope this dynamite will help out my hammer though! i think it'll be quite a kick in the pants. that stock motor is pretty mild.

Ron Olson

TEASE! :D I've got to get with Bugfanatic to try a few things out on his. I met up with him on Sunday but he didn't have any of his boats with him.

BoatDoc
06-15-2004, 09:26 PM
ok, ron...if the new idea works, all of you guys are going to FREAK OUT!!!! that's all i have to say. it's pretty crazy, but i'll do anything at least once. we've actually got several "secret" projects going on down here. if it doesn't work, i'll still show it to y'all...just because it's too crazy not to share. but for now...you'll just have to wait. :D if i'm right about this...it'll be worth the wait!!!

Would the x427 prop fit on my Auquajet?.

BoatDoc
06-15-2004, 09:54 PM
i don't see why it wouldn't. it worked pretty well on my hammer for about 10 minutes before the engine fell victim to all my tweaking!! but i think that it'll be my new prop of choice for my yellow rocket. i put that engine through absolute HELL!!!!! the CEN motor is probably better than what i had in my hammer, so the x427 may be a good prop for you.

water dog
06-15-2004, 10:02 PM
Do you think i have to modify the prop ?.I think the shaft is 3/8 instead of 3/16 .I I may go to a colder plug like a mcoy mc9 and bump up my nitro to 30% from 20% also.

BoatDoc
06-15-2004, 10:09 PM
i don't have a CEN so i can't answer that for ya! if your engine is not modified, the 30% might be ok. but i'm not too sure on that either!!!! let me tell you how i hadle my boats (and everything else for that matter)..."if it don't fit, force it. if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway!" in other words...i'm a hammer mechanic!! for a living i get to beat army aircraft with BFH's, so breaking stuff is a daily thing to me. i just have to work it into the hobby budget!

water dog
06-15-2004, 10:15 PM
I did modify the case a little bit with some port and polish .You think that 30% maybe too much nitro for it?.

BoatDoc
06-15-2004, 10:25 PM
you may want to think of a different plug. but i don't think it'll be a problem. some of the other guys may be more of a help in that department.

"if it don't fit, force it. if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway!" A life motto if ever there was one. I do tend to rely on this for many a project. :D

But there is one that I have found rather handy that I am SURE you can use:

If at first you don't succeed, get a BIGGER hammer. If you still can't do it, it didn't need to be done to begin with. ;)

Where did you post the pics that were supposed to be here after the new engine?

towards the bottom of the 1st page

Ron Olson

I feel like I've been out of the loop on this thread. An X-427 is WAY too small for your boat and besides, won't fit in the shaft and that prop has a 1/8" hole in the hub and the boat needs props with a 3/16" hole. Props that I'd advise are the Octura X-437, X-438, X-637 and X-440.

BoatDoc
04-10-2006, 11:33 PM
i'm glad you brought that up ron, that's why i said i didn't know much about the CEN hull!! can it really push that much prop? i couldn't get either of the .15's in my hammer to swing a 30mm! sounds like the Cen motor has lots more "umph"
