i was wondering if the d6 is a good motor for the xxx-4 on a tight track. and why is lower voltage good for mods i plan on getting the 10x2 flatwire motor any other stuff that can help my transition into modified better is great

I personally don't use the Epic that come from Trinity (would most refer to as off the shelf) never been able to get them to run good that includes the P94, D5 and D6 the few I've bought are basically junk. What I do use is the Reedy Modified Ti or PT for oval, an the KR for offroad and touring car or Epic based motors tuned by aftermarket motor companies like Putnam, Kisbey, Fantom those use standard round wire.

Which turn and wind you select is going to based on track size and what the traction is like. On carpet with good traction a 9 single could be used, while on asphalt is traction conditions got worse as temperatures when up then you might need a 12 x2 setup something with a tab milder acceleration so tires are being broken loose under acceleration.

KR Motors are really great for offroad. The Orion Revolution / Peak vantage motors are great as well, maybe slightly less powered than the KR but you get all extra runs without all the maintenance of a standard mod motor.

If you are going to be racing the modified class the best information you'll ever get is from the racers there at the track. You be able to get information both on the type of motor everyone uses, plus what turn/wind works best on that track along with the gear ratio everyone tends to use.

Many experienced mod racers buy complete motors in turn/wind that they feel suit the track conditions then several replacement armatures in different turn/wind from their complete motors sometimes the same turn/wind so you have a fresh armature. Going this route allows you to change the motor's power output to suit track conditions without having to buy every complete motor or buying a motor that's not suitable to track conditions.

Im currently using a Peak vantage in my offroad cars.
12X1 high torque.

Fantastic motor, plenty fast enough to keep up with anybody else and as its the V spec endbell maintenance is very easy. Im running it 4-5 meetings on a set of brushes with little drop in performance and excelent efficency.

Personally ive allways prefered to buy a higher wind and gear up a tad, rather than run somehting silly like a 9 and have to gear down. But thats more personal preference than anything else.

we can tell you what we think and our set ups but it is no good to you. you should ask the hot shoes at your track and see what they say. but i like Reedys. the older ones with more torque too.
