I recently got a RS4 Rally and obliterated my Stock Peugeot body because I didn't have a bumper installed. I rounded up an older body that has only a little front hang.

Can somebody give me ideas about another body that has a very small amount of body in front of the front wheels?

janders - How well does that rear spoiler stay on? Is it just servo tape on the sides? Can it handle a little (read Major) flipping?

the proline mini cooper is very small in the front, it wouldnt fit my tc3 with the trinity bumper, i had to use the stock grey bumper and trim a lot off because i didnt want to cut the trinity one

I haven't put this into practice yet, but I think you can essentially make a removeable front airdam for bodies, so you'll get good looks and performance on-road with plenty of clearance off. It basically involves drawing a horizontal line all the way across the front end, maybe 1/2" up from the bottom, and getting some strips of Lexan that overlap by at least 1/4" on each side. Drill some holes through the body and the strips large enough for some 4-40 screws, and then remove everything and cut along the line.

When you bolt it all together, everything SHOULD line up pretty well, and be fairly stable if you use a foam bumper on the backside to keep it supported (Which you should do anyway, even off-road: Just trim it for ground clearance).

If anybody tries this, let us know how it works.

Barring that, most all bodies can be trimmed a good few millimeters up from the bottom. For example, on this HPI Impreza, not mine but I have one waiting to be painted, I would trim the front end to just under that lower air intake. Judging by the photos it looks to be about 1/4", or 5-6mm. You could do the same on the sides too. This won't make a huge difference to the appearance, but it could save you from catching on a lot of smaller rocks and bumps. Plus that area will get chewed up anyway, best to just get rid of it and maybe save the rest of the body for a little while longer.

Yeah the Mini-Cooper is good. I just got the RS4 front bumper and am about to install it. I'll let you all know what it's like in the end.
SteveK - I see what you mean. Not a bad plan.
I think my next will either be the Beetle Cup Racer or the Toyota MRS

Next question...
Spoiler that isn't ugly but can handle the rollovers. You all know how this car nosedives without any downforce in the rear.

just a little input, the beetle cup racer from HPI is great for rallying....you have to cut the front airdam off to prevent it from getting caught on rocks and what not, but it seems whenever you do roll over, it some how manages to get back on all fours! Maybe its the oval shape? But I had a blast with mine on the offroad track...hehehe.

Aluma - How was the rear downforce? Did it nosedive on jumps?

orbitron-
I didn't run any of the corollas I made, although the winf is held on with DS tape, although it would be easy to screw it on.

As for removable front bumper- I made one for my Tamiya WRC Lancer EVO VI.
It's easy to make out of spare lexan or other flexible plastics. It doesn't look as real as the original bumper, but that;s just due to the amount of work I put into it. Most of the time I ran it without the bumper and it worked quite well.

Well the removeable part would be just the original bumper, only held on with Lexan strips inside the body. The only realism issue is keeping it lined up properly with the rest of the body.

True, you can use the stock bumper....I made mine from scratch, as the body I had(bought used) had no usable front bumper. With just an exacto, some lexan scraps and a few drill holes + screws you can make a very realistic removable bumper.

Y'all are saying cut the body and put a patch on the backside to reconnect it right??

SteveK

Yup, that's basically it: Just some small strips of Lexan on the inside of the body held on with screws to keep the bumper on when you run it on-road or stick it on the shelf.

I opened this thread thinking of a hangover! I am severly disapointed.
