I know there's people that sell that stuff... if this doesn't work for ya, try on Trinitys tech talk, and call it "Needed: Graphite Sheets" Someone is bound to speak up.

I'll tell you something about Carbon Fiber though. It is sronger, and lighter, and more flexible than aluminum. So if you can get your hands on Carbon Fiber, go for it, its better than aluminum.

Buying it from hobby shops is way to expensive, aircraft construction companies sell it for as low as $25US/square yard. Thats just the fabric so you'd have to buy the special resin to make anything with it, except t-shirts, but then you could mould it into any shape, like adding tunnels to your chassis, highly ilegal for competition. You'll also need an old oven to bake it in. You could also vacume bag it but thats ussualy done when a honeycomb internal structure is used like open wheel race car monoquck (sory about the spelling).

While it's true that carbon fiber is lighter and stronger it's not always the better materail for a chassis; especially if it's an onroad vehicle. If anything making the chassis a little heavier will lower the CG of your car and help it handle better. Try making your chassis out of Ti and making the upper plates out of carbon fiber and see if that doesn't handle like a dream. The metal chassis is also much better if it's a nitro car because it dissapates heat better.

GT - I checked out that site, which is pretty cool. The only problem is (unless I'm missing something) the thickest material is .094", which is only 3/32 thick. It wouldn't be thick enough for a chassis plate. Good for a radio plate, but too thin for a lower plate. Did I miss something on their website? Do they have thicker material?

I thought I saw .110" somewhere, I think it was under graphite.

I have some 0.125" sheets if you are intrested. I have 12" x 12" sheets or I have a couple of 2' x 4' sheets also. email me at bruski@comporium.net

Check out the site I suggested. Rob will custom make a sheet for you. Any size, any thickness you want. He makes it himself.
The website isn't up quite yet, but it should be around within a week or two. A 1/16" thick piece 6"x12" ran me I think $16. He can custom make it any size you need.

You can buy a couple thin sheets and laminate them for extra strengh. If you dont know laminating is taking two or more and stacking them on top and fastening them to each other. It provides more strength.
