Hi all...
I am looking for good donor vehicles that I might be able to get relativly cheap (either used or new) or be able to just buy components.
My project is to build a tube frame rock buggy that I can set a custom CJ-8 Jeep body I am designing to be made out of tin and styrene (since no one seems to offer one in Lexan... and the Wild Willy's body just ain't doing it for me).
My optimal plans are solid axles front and rear (no independant... but this may change).
4wd, obviously.
electric powered with a powerful can motor, but geared down for low-end torque. diffs will also be "locked".
I was considering just modifing the MRC Ironman truck I have, but it seems to be too big of a pain to modify the rear diff setup to run a shaft to the front to hook up a front diff. Not only that, but the front end looks to be too restrictive to do steering with 4wd. And it's IFS/IRS.
I've thought about just designing and casting my own drivetrain diffs from aluminum, but I think that's going to be more of a hassle than I want to deal with.
Thoughts?
Any vehicles out there that are relatively inexpensive that I can use for the 4wd system? Anything I can use the entire drivetrain out of?
Thanks!!!
