Hello everyone, I am new to this board and to the world of rc cars. I am looking to buy my first car or truck. I want something decent, not real cheap, but also not very expensive. I would like it to be easy to upgrade so I can build upon the car as my knowledge grows. I bought an RC Car Action magazine hoping to get some ideas, but I have no idea what I am looking at or for in the first place. I like the way the monster trucks look compared to the cars. But, I am open to all ideas/suggestions. What are the pros and cons between the trucks and cars? Someone please provide direction, thanks in advance.

Can you say expensive. The tmaxx is good and all but at 439.99 I think, its kind of high. Are you going to race or just bash. DO you mind working on it after a hour or so of running. Do you want to be able to just hit a switch and go or would you be more interested in a nitro. You have to make a few decisions. If you go electric its simpler and easier for a beginner. They have the plug and play facter. Not a whole lot can go wrong with the motor so all you do is plug the battery in and play.If you don't mind tuning an engine then maybe you would like a nitro. Make a few decisions to which you want. The big 2 are nitro or electeric and on or off road. Post a reply and it will help.

if youre gonna do parking lot bashing, go for a touring car. for backyard bashing, either a buggy or monster truck will do. for the best of both worlds, get a rally car. it wont handle big jumps and very rough terain but if you decide to run on smooth surfaces, you can convert it easily to a touring car. electric is easier and simpler to run.

May I suggest a Rally car? An HPI RS4 Rally or Kyosho AlphaOne Rally are both inexpensive ($150 for the kit) and will allow you to use it on asphalt, dirt, concrete, etc. You can also interchage the tire between street, rally and slick tires. It's basically a touring car with a beefy suspention and offroad sedan tires. And most are 4wd. Just a thought.

what you want is a traxxas stanpede with a decent motor, battery, esc and the right gearing you cant go wrong its quick, jumps well, does wheelies heck ive even seem them work well with a msc , but if you want my oppinion you cant go wrong with the stampede, its easy to run and maintain and not to mention its cheap. just my 2 cents. later

The Stampede is an excellent first vehicle. I don't think you can go wrong with it. Get you a good reverseble electronic speed control, like a rooster, and maybe a couple 1500 Amp Max battery packs and a decent charger. The Pede is tons o fun :D

Actually, with batteries, it's my opinion you should get the best batteries you can afford, like maybe some 2400 or even 3000 sport packs. You can always use them in future cars and you'll appreciate the longer run times. For bashing and entrylevel racing, non-matched packs are great.

I think I have decided on an electric monster truck. I really like the look of the TMAXX, but am not crazy about the price. I like the Stampede also, it is my second choice, and the price is much better. Is there a really big difference between the two that I would notice being new? Is the Stampede easy to upgrade as my knowledge of the hobby increases? Thanks for all the responses, I definitely will get the longest running battery I can afford. Thanks again.

Check out last months (I think) issue of RCCAs ultimate Stampede. That thing was killer. They gave it a whole new Chassis. The Pede can be upgraded as you go along, or simply left alone and enjoyed. Oh, if you get the Pede kit, go ahead and spend the extra money on a ball bearing kit. It is well worth it, and I prevents you from having to tear the truck down again at a later date to install them.

And also spend the extra 30 bux on the Electric Stampede that comes with the esc.
