View Full Version : Best Paint Competition #16

In Mab's absence (I believe he is moving/finding a place) I'll get the competition going and he can resume them when he is able.
Welcome everyone to the Sixtenth Best Paint Competition!!
The best paint competition will be open for entrees for 15 days and will close at 12:00 AM June 15th at midnight CST. This means this competition will overlap with the Best Street/Race competition.
Restrictions: None
The best paint competition is an opportunity for people to express their unbounded imaginations on an R/C car body. With the exception of restricted months, any body may be entered in this competition by any member of RCZone. Each body will be judged based on 3 criteria:
1) Design: How well does the design fit/flow on the body? Is it visually appealing? How are the color choices? Originality does not count, but naturally something that every painter has done will not score as high as something unique and new in skills used or design.
2) Execution: Regardless of how complex or difficult it is, how well is it executed? Are there paint bleeds? Are the lines straight (or correctly curved)? Are their obvious mistakes? Finger prints? How well executed are the fades and other basic painting techniques? etc.
3) Difficulty: How hard was this body to paint? Is it one color? Is the entire thing 5mm checkers with 4 different colors in each square? Are the mask lines through difficult areas of the body (ie, wing mounts or stadium truck beds). It may be 2 colors, but is one marbled? Is one color a candy that requires a special backing technique? This is where experience as a painter helps the most.
The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body. A chassis is not required, the body is being judged.
The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action!!
RULES for Best Paint:
1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions. (None)
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
Inspiration (could be another paint job).
And of course, a body.
This month Integra will be judging the Best paint competition.
In the following two weeks (June 15 to June 30) we will hold the Sixteenth Street/Race Competition (yes we missed the 15th, if your here around the 15th, send me a PM to put up the Street/Race comp in case I forget). Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!
July: restrictions:
Best paint: Art - Create a body that represents a work of "art" to you. This can mean many things from recreating an actual work of art on a body to creating an original work on a body you think would be suitable for a modern art exhibit but the bottom line is, do you think what you created is art rather then just craft? Go as wild as you like!
Best street/race: Racing Scheme - A team replica or your own "team" version.
body: HPI 190mm Porsche 911 Turbo
Paint: Pactra Indy Silver
Masks: none
Inspiration: just wanted that nice "exotic" look

I did this body with masking tape and spray cans, i dont know what size and the colors are dark red and black. I am only 13 and this is my first body. My inspiration was that i needed a new body, cuz my stock 1 sucked! :D I used the stock masks. The vehicle is a team losi xxx-nt sport. In this pic, i still have my stock engine, but now i have a os 15 cv-rx. I know i wont win, but i decided to just see what people thought about this body.
Thanks,

my thoughts exactly
My thoughts were.... "I need windows if I'm sittin' in it driving, If not then the windows get trashed from the inside fairly fast on our track from debris and fuel/lubes." So no clear windows... at least I thought the paint was adaquet to post here.... I guess I was wrong....
And where are the pics of yours so I can see how it's suposed to be?

mkII and Kuya, I just wanted to let you know the street race competition will start in a few days and your cars are much more suited to that competition (they are exactly what that comp is designed for). If you want to resign from this comp, just say so and then reenter them there. If you don't resign here, you can't enter them in the next and both are great cars for that comp.
Everyone else, nice work! Just one more day to place entries!

I'd like to thank Pro Line, for making a nice body.... Iwata for making a great airbrush.... Parma for making the Faskolor.... Eddel at my hobby shop for selling it all to me.... All the little people behind the scenes... My agent.... My publicist.... My personal trainer.........I think that's all.
Seriously, though, this board is known for having some of the best painters around, so to win here really makes me feel like I have accomplished something.
