View Full Version : Radio Interference Problems! Help!

My dad has an RC10GT Plus RTR, and he just bought a Hitec 625MG servo for it. It still has the stock transmitter/receiver that came with the RTR (Ace Jaguar 2-Channel AM). After I installed the new servo, I noticed that when the steering servo is doing something (i.e. straining to keep wheels centered, or, turning the wheels), it makes the throttle servo jitter. Obviously, my father doesn't want his throttle going like a rollercoaster when he's trying to navigate the track.

Any ideas? The original steering servo doesn't make the throttle servo jitter, but when I install the 625MG it does. My only guesses are:

1. The electric motor in the servo is causing interference with AM reception.

2. The metal gears in the servo are generating some sort of interference. (Have you ever tried to unscrew something while your AM radio is on? Jitters like crazy)

3. The servo is generating interference through the servo wire.

These are only guesses and I don't have very much confidence that any of them are right. Can anyone help out?

Thanks :D

Did you install the shield that comes with that servo? A kid at my track had installed one and when he'd fire up the thing, the throttle servo would stick wide open. I unplugged the steering servo, cuz that was the only thing he'd changed since it last worked properly, and it stopped. We looked at the instructions for the servo, and it said to install the shield (it's black, and big, can't miss it...)... We did, problem stopped..

I hated that Ofna of his... It nearly took my hand off! If I hadn't had on my gloves, I woulda came close to losing a thumb when it hung WOT on me! As it was, it carved a 2" line into my Craftsman mechanics glove.. Scary stuff man!

I've heard that metal gears can be a source of interferrence. Likely though they are adding to interferrence that allready exists but was not noticeable until now. Look for other areas of possible interferrence and eliminate them. That should help. Aeas you could have problems are metal to metal vibration such as in linkages and what not. Isolate these with fuel tube or heat shrink to keep the metal from touching. Make sure you have the most extension of your reciever antenna wire that you can. Do not wrap the antenna wire around the antenna tube at the top. Instead if you have excess wire to do something with wrap it around a straw and secure it at both ends but do not pass the wire through the wraps. Make sure the reciever is well insulated from vibration inside the electronics box with foam padding. I'm sure there's other things to look for but right now I can't think of any...give those a try.

Did he buy a Hitec 625MG, and did the "shield" come in the box, with the servo?

I have no idea what the shield is that you are talking about - I looked in the box and found nothing. Could you describe it? A picture maybe? I also looked in the instructions - no mentioning of a shield. Hmm.

InspGadgt-

I guess I'll have to do what you were suggesting. I thought of doing all that earlier, but it's a lot of trouble to do, so I figured I'd ask here first to see if there was an easy fix.

I hate AM! I'm sure glad I have an FM radio for my T4...

Any more help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys.
