Ok, I just got back into RC a little and pulled out my charger earlier today, a Pro-Tech 702 AC/DC NiCD charger, to charge up the old faithful JRX-Pro. The charger is very old (I found the reciept and it says I bought it in June 1992).

The timer dial doesn't work though. The charger itself works, but when I turn the dial it doesn't hold it just goes back to "zero." I pulled off the top cover and the mechanism that controls the dial seems pretty complicated so I didn't mess around with it.

Has anyone had this problem with any of their chargers, or even better with the pro-tech 702? I've found that I can just rig it to hold the timer off the "zero" position so that it charges, but I would like to fix it so it works properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? Am I going to have to buy a new charger? Thank you in advance for any help and suggestions.

With todays advancements in Battery technology, and the change from nicad to NiMH I would recommend you rid yourself of that charger, I personally could recommend a fe chargers for around $100. The Indi 16x2.5 and the Durtrax Intellipeak Digital chargers are both excellent. Also the LRP Pulsar Sport is a good investment. You can do both nicad and NIMH with any of these chargers. Chances are your going to need new batteries cause the 11 year old ones you have are probably dead, Spend some money u front and you will be a LOT happier in the end, also goto the Electric Forum or the Electronics forum, there are a lot of discussions related to chargers there and you can get some good info off of them. Hope I helped, have a nice nite.

Thanks nitrofun. Yeah, I was pretty sure I should go ahead and get a new charger. I charged up the battery I have, Duratrax 1900mAh, and it only lasted maybe 5 minutes. I knew they were pretty dead. I've read over a few of the threads in the elec forum about chargers and I'm looking into a few. Thanks again for your response and suggestions. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah and I'll be picking up a new battery also; probably a NiMH ~3000mAh.
