I would like to build a boat around 42 inches does any body know where I can get plans to do this? I would like to power it with a 23cc zenoah engine and was wondering what type of drive system prop pitch and stering setup was reccomended? Any info like stuffing tub or any thing to do with boats would be appericiated. thank you

Does any body know about the size of prop to use and or the size of drive shaft to use for this motor hull set up? Do you have to put strakes on the side of the hull or will it turn fine with just a vee shaped hull?

When you're talking about building a boat what exactly do you mean?

Have hull - need to install engine, hdwr & radio ?
or
Build it from scratch?

If you're talking about building from scratch why? You can buy a new blank hull for $150-200 depending on the style.. V or Cat.
If you search around, you can find them for that price used with running gear.

I'm a stickler for shopping used because I've threw my money away several times. Example: I bought a new gas boat w/G230rc, NO Radio shipped for $900. Bought the same boat 'used' RTR shipped for less than $600 just the other day. Only two scratches... engine fired up on the second pull...

There's one posted here for $350. Thats the one I was going to buy had I seen it sooner.:o

Props... depends on the length & weight of the hull. To start with, you can't go wrong with a Prather 270 or 275. I've got both NIP in front of me if you want one. They're spares left over from the season.

On my gas boats, I run the 275 and its a good prop, but there are others out there that will make it go faster, but how fast for the extra $s you spend on it?

Drive shaft.... GAS boats = 1/4" drive shaft

I've recently had some built for $19 ea. Ran one all season. Though I don't race. If you plan on racing... get a few extras due to the stress. My running is quick straight away blasts and then back out of it for sport running.

Let us know your ideas and we'll help you find the boat.

FORABUCK makes some good hulls and will build one in any color you want. Of course you'll need an extra $150 for the hardware but its still a new hull for less than 200 bones. Check out his other hulls.

You've got the idea.

What I was wanting to build or buy, building one I thought would be cheaper, was a 42 inch deep vee with a 26 cc zenoah motor and a single rudder stering system. The other Idea I was throwing around was to put a u-joint between the drive shaft and the prop and make the prop turn with the rudder, but I don't know if that will work with that type of motor and power? Can you and where do you by the sealed radio box for your servo and receiver?
motor, drive shaft, prop, two servos rudder and fuel tank is there anything else?
What size of servos for the stering and throttle?
whats the difference between the 270 and 275 prop? Is it just pitch? how many blades?

Thank you

Stay away from the u joint idea, it will be fine w/o setup. If you don't have any experience in rc boats I would saty away from building your own hull for the first boat. I can't honestly say how difficult it would be but I,m with double, 150 - 200 bones you can get a decent hull and if found on ebay or through another seller may even come with drive and rudder.

Building to me means going from nothing having to build a mold etc....

Putting one together.... Have hull, need hdware, engine etc..

This is a piece of cake. Hell, youv'e got us;)

If you put one together, look at Bufaroo's bargain boat. He's the man when it comes to pointing the sales out. (we need to hit some yard sales when I get home);) It can be done. However!!!A lot of times you'll buy a boat with the intentions of saving money and actually cost yourself more time and headache than its worth ESPECIALLY A NEWBY.

I'd suggest this for guys that have been in the hobby for a while and have extra stuff collected up that they can toss one together without much $'s spent.

Next you have buying Ready to Run. I caught this boat at the right time. I made an offer and the guy bit. Ready to Run for less than $500. The hull is perfect. Engine fired right up and all it needs is slapping some fresh battery's in there and a little gas.

Btw, its the yellow boat.

This is the best time to buy ! Folks have to pay for the holiday spending and we'll help them unload some stuff.

Double's not lying about having us for any questions. In fact This is where I came to build mine. (sorry Double - put together) these guys are great. I'll have to post a pic of mine. had one in the puter till it crashed. I just bought a used hull and since I wanted to repaint as long as it was structurally sound I didn't care about how it looked. bought the outdrive and rudder and pices and parts seperate either through a dealer or off e bay or the such.

What type or name of hull would you reccomend for use with a 26cc zenoah engine deep vee would be the style. I can't afford to buy a bonzi or prather rtr with a 26cc zenoah the prices I've seen are about $1500 american, That's enough money. I could afford right now about $600-800 that's why I was thinking about building the hull. But if I could I would buy something every month and slowly put it together. But I'm not sure what I will need for a drive set up or servo size? Any web sites and suggestions what is being used or is reccomended would be appreciated.

I know I'm new around here, but have any of you checked out the offshore line at Dumas Boats? I went looking and found one that runs about $295, with the hardware kit to match for another $99. This might no be what you want, but it's just an idea.

Strut & Rudder same as my boats. If you go through the manufactuer its DOUBLE THE PRICE ....http://www.rocketcityracing.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=jqgqjrc0

$30

Thats all the outside running gear right there for 30 bones. You can build a standoff bracket yourself out of aluminum (the part between the hull & the Octura assembly).

Engine mount -- Purple anodized :D -- $45

Radio box... wifes tupperware container :p or http://www.rocketcityracing.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&grp=82

Tank--- $15-20

Not too expensive after all.:)
