Has Anybody painted their Tiger Moth a color other than the default yellow that it comes already painted in? Also, can you buy this plane unpainted? All the ones I see at Hobby shops are already painted yellow

I got a bit tired of the yellow, went to Wal-Mart for some craft paints, thinned them 50/50, and sprayed a camouflge scheme on mine. I like it much better now. I forgot toweigh it before and after, so OI can't tell how much it added. Can't tell any difference in the air. It flies as good as before (which is absolutely magnificeant) and looks a lot better too. 8-)

You may need to click on "next page" once, I can't remember.

Happy flying!

Hey Gary, I haven't seen much of a comparative flight report on this Tiggy, just Jason's raves about it. How does it fly compared to, say, a Litestik, your Mouse (mice) or whatever? What's the weight? Did Jason paint his with that lightweight Krylon that he recommends?

John,

The Tiger Moth is much more manouverable (sp?) than a LiteStik, and a heck of a lot better looking. 8-) It will turn a circle half the size of the LiteStik's. Its speed range is probably twice that of the Stik; low speed about the same, but twice as fast at throttle-up. Handles the wind very well for its small size and light weight. Hard to compare it to a Mouse, because it actually generates lift and flies like an airplane, where a Mouse simply planes the air (Hmmm...air-plane) and relies on lots of power to slow down. It would be like comparing apples and oranges. The Moth loops quite easilly from straight and level. Mine refuses to snap or spin more than a half turn. Going from a LiteStik to the Moth is like leaving a sedan and climbing into a sports car. Don't get me wrong; I love my Stiks (all five of them), but the Moth is a different airplane. Everyone who loves park / indoor flyers should have one (at least).

Here are the weights on mine:
8.5 oz with 6 120 mAh NiCads.
8.7 oz with 7 300 mAh NiMHs.

Flight times are 4.5 minutes and 11 minutes, respectively.

Those weights sound high, but it flys like it is weightless.

By the way, I'm flying mine at an elevation of 4200 feet (thin air) and it will do figure 8s in a gymnasium. Can't wait to give it a whirl in that soupy stuff at sea level. 8-)

I believe Jason used the Krylon "Short Cuts" spray can on his. You may want to check his previous posts about it.

I hope this answers your questions.

Happy flying!

Gary
