Has anyone built this plane? I am going to build it and power it with a DX-C motor with 8inch prop. I am going to use the GWS pico pack to control it and batteries will be double time NIMH cells. I wanted to know if the GWS motor will work fine or if I should go with a geared 280? I want a scale flying plane and not a rocket. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jeffrey Park

Hi,

keep the plane very light and stay with the GWS drive. A 280 needs relatively heavy batteries, that *would* be a rocket! Consider using a 10" prop with the DX-C drive, or (if that is too big) use a DX-A drive. An 8" prop will be too small with the DX-C gear ratio.

Thank you for the reply. I plan ongoing with the DX-A with an eight-inch prop. I have the fuse and wings all built up and am starting to redesign the tail feathers. So far it has been pretty easy mounting the servos and the motor. I did not have to modify the fuse at all in order to mount the motor. I'll keep everyone informed as I get nearer to completion.

Thought I would post a pic with an upadate. I have built the wings, fuse and horizontal stab. The all up weight so far is 1.1 ounce. I don't have a gram scale or else I would have it in grams. The wood in this kit is excellent accept for the sticks. I replaced the stick balsa with the lightest stuff I could find. If everything goes as plans I will have an all up weight of just over 5 ounces.

I'm building the Herr "Fairchild 24". I hope mine looks as good as yours at that stage...
