Hey all,
I have read the recent post about the GWS antenna length and I too just recently purchased my first one. I believe it does have a 19" antenna, but I have not measured it yet. What kind of range would I get with this? The website says 300m, but is that with the 39" antenna? By the way, I am referring to the GWS R-4P receiver.
Thanks,
Jeff

It should have a 39" antenna. I know all of mine do, unless I cut them down to 4" and put deans base loaded ones to it.

The range check on mine with a 19" antenna was 36 feet. I then added an aftermarket antenna from Azaar/EEN and the range check went up to 60 feet. Both were done with the Tx antenna fully collapsed useing a Futaba Super 8.
As for the actual range with the 19 incher, it should be arround half that of the full 39". About 500 feet instead of 1000 feet.

GWS R4P is the first one who designed at this size and weight 3.6g ( 3.1g with JST connector and 1/2m wire. ) can pass European flight sight at 10Khz channel seperation, which in USA only need to meet 20Khz for FCC required.
Both Germany and UK who need to meet this strictly 10Khz spec, that's why GWS R4P is being sold with excellent market share in most European countries.
Most RC modeler did not have enough equipments to do such cretical testing. But there is an easy way to show how GWS R4P is better than other traditional RXs, try to fly with more flyers together with a lot of next upper and lower channels.
Model Type R-4P Sensitivity: 5£gv for Pico & Naro RX . service 1000 feet w/ 1m Ant. If you cut Ant. to be 1/2m, 500 feet will mostly more than need.
Most Japanese makers said: 5uv can serve for 700m or 2300 feet, may be tested very much away from city. But actually result same as GWS R-4P when tested in the same place, same time at Taipei city area. When GWS said 300m that is with a lot of spared safety range in case of unexpect weather condition may occured!
How about GWS receivers Selectivity?
10KHz/50dB for Pico & Naro
GWS RXs competiable with TOP class RXs!
If a dual conversion receiver with poor designed, sometime you may see the performance no better than a good single conversion RX as GWS designed!

Does anyone have any direct experience with the Azzar antenna and the R4P receiver? Cloud 9 RC and Todds Models are now selling them for $10. http://www.toddsmodels.com/receivers.htm
Here's the directions from Todds site:
This short RC receiver antenna can effectively replace a 39-inch antenna that adds excess weight and dangles off the ends of a small model. The
M-72 weighs 0.6 gram and is essentially a coil of wire on a 5-inch rod. Just cut the existing receiver antenna 1 inch from its case or PC board and solder on the M-72. Intended only for indoor and backyard models, it only marginally reduces the normal radio range. Initial testing of some 25 units in the field has disclosed no problems, but be sure to check the radio range after installation.

gjohnson, I'm using an Azarr with a GWS R4P and it is working great. I initially got the one with the 2" lead but found that did not allow me to get it far enough from the rest of the radio gear to avoid glitching. When I switched to the 6" lead Azarr it worked fine. Also I did have to make sure my metal pushrods were not touching. I think my Tigermoth looks much better without any visible antenna. No problems with range.
