Anyone own/flown/seen flown/read a review on a Megatech Merlin? Shoot it at me, the good, the bad, the ugly.

Thanks a lot

Pros...

Flies very slow, good trainer. Kite with a motor is a good description.

Cons...

Can't handle much wind, props break easily, prop shaft bends easily. Can't reuse radio gear in other planes. A little on the pricey side.

Thanks, I was thinking the same things, I think I may just want to go with the LiteStick from www.goflyit.com (http://www.goflyit.com) - $205 RTF w/ Lithium batteries! 45 min. run times sounds sweet to me.

Thanks again!

Either that or a GWS Tiger Moth. I started with a lite stik to relearn how to fly. It was only a $25 investment so I didn't care if I trashed it (which I did).

If you have any piloting skills at all, the Tiger Moth is the way to go.

Just my .02,

Jim

I agree with Jim, While the Lite Stick is a great trainer, if you have any piloting skills, the GWS Tiger Moth will give you more enjoyment. It is truly a pleasure to fly.

No, I have no piloting skills, but if I get good on the litestick, I can always move up. Thanks all!

Take note that the Merlin and Lite Stik aren't as similar as they seem. The Merlin actually can handle a light wind and remain in control, whereas the Lite Stik is more sensitive to wind and more likely to be affected by it.

I agree -- the Merlin is not a bargain at $200. However, if you want to get the kit version (between $70 and $80) and add your own radio gear, this issue can be solved.

Model Airplane News is releasing a new sister magazine entitled Backyard Flyer on October 6th. Why not get a copy of it and see what models they recommend? You might find some really great advice there.
