I just got the Dymond delta peak mini charger, and was wondering if a cheap 12v adapter from K-mart etc. would work for use with a wall outlet. My flying field is right outside my back door, so a car battery won't be used very often.

Do any of the more advanced chargers come with normal wall plug?

One more thing- the lowest setting on the charger(fast charge) is 300mah. I'm assuming this is the one I would use for my 280mah nimh 7 cell pack(came with GWS pico pack).

I did a search on charging, and everyone seems to have a different opinion on every aspect of charging batteries- will this setting be safe?

Thanks alot
Andrew

I charge my likestik batter at 1amp.i believe 300mah is .3amps if there are 1000 mah in an amp.so then if im right 300mah is fine.as for the wall adapter ive tride them on my hitek digi charger and it didnt work.i think its because the wall adapter cant provide enough amps to charge the battery.but you can give it a try.hope this helps

I charge from two 12V sources. I bought a field battery from Hobby Lobby. I charge this up with a cheap trickle charger they also sell. Then, I take this 12V battery and my Astro 110D or Dymond charger with me and charge in the field. The other alternative I use is an Astro 12V power source. Hobby Lobby also sells these. You may be able to get a 12V power source from Radio Shack or other electronics supply. The advantage of the Astro 12V source is that is is supposed to be sufficient to charge large cell packs. If you are not planning to charge big packs, you can possibly get away with something less expensive. BTW, the Astro 12V source actually puts out more than 12Volts. I think they explain why on their site.

Someone like Jochen can probably explain the whys of 12V sources. I've just given you what I'm using.

Andrew,

Mike is correct when he says that wall transformers will not work because they don't generate enough amperage.

The Dymond charger is designed as a field charger to run from your car's 12V battery. Gordon is correct when he says that you must use a power supply. The Astro power supply is necessary so the Astro 110D can charge many cell packs (9 to 20 or 30 cells).

For your Dymond charger, Radio Shack sells a power supply that duplicates a car battery's output. It supplies 13.8V at up to 3amps. It sells for around $25 and is all your Dymond charger would ever need.

A laptop pc power supply is a nice source of regulated 12v for the kind of amparage you will need. Most put out 2-3 amps. I found one that gives 5 amps.
Check EBay, I got mine for $10. Great deal.

Go to the local council recycling depot and pick up a second-hand computer power supply for $ 5-10. Most of them will supply 12V at up to 8 amps.

3 amps won't do you much good with the AstroFlight 110D! You'll overload it if you aren't careful.

If you take a closer look at the 12V supply from AstroFlight, you'll see it's rated above 10 amps (the max. allowed by the 110D's fuses).

It's worth the $90...believe me.

hey jordanxt hows it going, between the car and plane forums I thought I was the only one from wisc. here.. I got a Astro flight variable charger for about $69. It works on AC/DC maybe you can sell yours and get one of them. I guess you'll have to figure which is the cheepest route for you. Good Luck

I recently jumped in and purchased a SuperNova 250S and wasn't sure what I was going to charge it on. Then, it occured to me. I have a Battery Tender for my cycle. So, with the Tender hooked to my battery on my cycle I hooked the SN250S to my battery. Things seem to charge great from it. The cool thing is, I can see the Tender kick in to keep charging the battery.

While this does seem to work great for me, I was wondering if anyone sees any problems with this setup before I make it a habbit???

Thanks!
