how would tamiya's tb-01 chassis compare to hpi rs4 rally? what are the mechanical differences and why is the rs4 so much more expensive? i've never seen a tb01 in person
thanks

i just ordered the TB over the HPI Rally
The TB is supposed to be alot better because
A. It is shaft driven unlike the belt driven HPI
B. The chassis includes an inner body that almost completly seals the insides.
i think the only thing the HPI Rally has better than the TB-01 is a wider stance...thats about it. I think its probably more because it says HPI. Also the TB-01 DOES NOT INCLUDE bearings..thats gotta be the main reason...but you can get a version with the bearings in it. Another thing is it might be eaiser to get replacement parts for the HPI over the TB.

if you already have the tb, does the tub top work very well? the main reason that i'm getting another car is to race it in the snow and rain and i was favoring the hpi because the tub works well and it has the motor up high out of the way of most of the water the tires throw. judging by pictures, i've never seen a tb, it looks like the electronics would be fairly susceptable to getting wet. can you tell me anything about that?
thanks again

TB=bushings no inner chassis
Both the same price, 149.99 at tower.

upgradeability is about the same though:
the only upgrades i see only available for the rs4 are the slipper clutch and the 2 speed, compare:
tb01 (http://www.tamiya.nl/tamoptions/tam_53000_tb01.html)
rs4 rally (http://www.hpiracing.com/kits/rally/r-op.htm)
by the way about the snow thing:

not mine it's some other guy's from the tb01 rally forum :D
both are great its all up to you :)
if you want further information about either of them check these pages out:

the tb01 comes with electronics(minus batt. and charger) and the rs4 does not.
i already have an entire set of electronic stuff i'd like to use, could i put this into the tamiya, or is it designed to fit only stock parts?
thanks a ton for all of the help

yes you can use all your electronics on it if you want to with no problem, the stock motor isnt too bad goes about 20mph i guess,
the MSC is bad so it would be smart to replace it with an esc.
now for the motor if you're gonna use anything better than the stock one i really recommend you buying the aluminum motor mount for it because it wont flex, it will help dissipate heat easier and it will allow you to use any gearing you want (whereas the stock one has about 9 available fixed gear ratios i think)

i noticed that the like you gave for the tb's upgrades is a company i n holland. are there any us companies that have these hop ups?
thanks again

it was just the tamiya holland website, most of these parts are available in the us, just take the parts code from there and type it in the search box at tower
if you are looking for a part and cant find it on tower or at your LHS check this website out, they stock every tamiya part
http://www.hobbynet-jp.com/english/hobbynet.html
but other than option parts i guarantee you that you wont have to buy any other spares, unless you do something really stupid like jump off 4 foot ramps with no body and land upside down and break a body mount (oops! :D )

i will give you a heads up on what the TB is like
it arrives in like 2 days! I think its a better deal than the HPI
that belt drive is a bit scary for off road...

I would take the RS4 over the Tamiya anyday. I know HPI makes greats cars, but I don't know too much about Tamiya.

My 2¢...
I would take the TB over the rs4. I have a tamiya m03l chassis, its rock solid (I have done everything to it and it keeps going) and from what I heard the tb is too. Plus it comes with an MSC, which will not fail if it gets wet, one advantage of an msc :).
I have an Rs4 Mt, that have similar drive trains...all I can tell you is belt drive and dirt/rocks doesn't mix well...
