im really mad about my 1/8 scale miss bud

i need some help with the zenoah g-23. i got some info on it that should help me out, but it is a very tough engine to start. it kicks like a mule!!! does anyone know if there is such a thing as an electric starter for the g-23, and whether or not it would work on the miss bud? thanx

Zen's are like that. Hold the motor while pull starting it to put less stress on the hull. There have been a few people over on Jim's R/C Boat Dock messing around with electric starters on their Gas boats.

that Pum 230 is a double ringed piston and has tons of compression. She'll jerk the cord out of your hand. Also it has more torque.

My buddy has one and I'm not big on helping him start it because the handle has come out of my hand and smacked the boat a few times. Where as mine is a rc230 singe ring, its cake to fire over.

I say you live with it and enjoy that monster:D

i got the mis bud also, took it out for the second time and after about 30 pulls it still would not start. Checked it for fire and that was good. I poured a very, very, little bit of fuel into the carb from my ratio-rite cup and it started on the first pull. i dont think this will hurt anything because of the small amount of fuel.

Sounds like it's running lean. This could be 2 reasons.

1st, you may have been trying to start it at the 'recommended' needle setting. You will most likely need to fatten up the mixture by 1 if not more turns out. I've said this before, it seems I don't have any engine that runs where they say it should. If they say 2-1/2 turns I run about 4 turns out.

2ndly, your engine may not be getting fuel from the tank. If it runs on what you dump down it's throat & then dies, it's sounding like fuel starvation. If you do this a few times & it still won't draw fuel, check your fuel connections, fuel filter, anything that you can think of that may hinder the fuel flow. Have you tried pull starting it with your finger over the exhaust to draw out fuel? This will help the fuel flow if you have a pressure line from the exhaust to the tank as it will try & push the fuel. Also, try starting it with a finger over the carb, this will make sure that you are on 'full choke' to try & draw fuel from the tank.

on mine its all about finger choke care for half a pull. Then it starts within 10 pulls
